2025 Player of the Year Leaderboard 🏆

To recap, Lachie Neale continued to add his already packed trophy case with his fourth Player of the Year award in a premiership year. Dayne Zorko wound back the clock to finish second, his first top three finish since 2021. Hugh McCluggage continues to be consistent finishing third, fourth, second and first in his last four seasons. Cam Rayner had his best ever season, polling the most votes of his career in a single season to finish a close fourth. Despite coming back from an ACL reconstruction mid-season, Will Ashcroft won best finals players as well as being our second Black-Hart Medallist awarded to the best player on grand final day. Bruce Reville may have missed out on playing in a premiership, but he still managed to win the coveted rookie of the year award.

Can Lachie Neale make it an even five wins and force me to name this award after him? Can Dayne Zorko win again after his long drought? Which of our prospective Joe Daniher replacements poll the best? And can anyone other than Levi Ashcroft win rookie of the year?

With the Brownlow considered a joke award and the blatant fixing of the Coaches Votes, I reckon this Big Footy Player of the Year Leaderboard is about as close as we can get to a fair representation of our players seasons. Obviously the defence still gets shafted but what can you do.

My point though - is Fletcher the most improved player in the comp? Zero votes last year.

As per recent seasons, finals matches will be worth 1.5 times more than the home and away season with grand final votes worth double, if that happens.

This week we've set a record with the lowest number of votes for a finals game (461), beating the previous record for the loss against Geelong in the preliminary final in 2022 of 478.

Missed this a few weeks back but Will Ashcroft has set a new season record for himself, beating his 28.5 votes in his 13 games last season, all of which came in his last 7 games. While I'm at it, Darcy Wilmot has set a new person season record of 17 votes, beating his 11 last year. He's improved every season (0, 8, 11, 17*).

Darcy Fort also polls for the first time since 2022 and he beats his own personal record of 2 votes that season.

Random Notes (that I haven't already posted about):

Hugh wins his second player of the year award, following his first win in 2021.
Fourth time on the podium for Harris, who's been runner-up in 2018 and finished third in 2023 and 2020. He also won rookie of the year in my first year running this competition in 2015.
Charlie's grand final performance means he doesn't go voteless, gaining his first vote in his 25th game of the season.
Starcevich and Oscar both played the most games without gaining a vote with fourteen games played. No wonder they're not going to be on our list next season! (joke)
