Go through how many top age northern academy kids are possible candidates. There are a LOT of mids and flankers vying for the team.

Just from the Lions.

Annabel mid.
Lillico mid.
Bridge hbf.
Geesu sf.
Tanks mid.
Barry def.
Waller ruck.

Plus, I'm not even sure Hodge is even the best bottom age hbf at the Lions.
Fair enough. I didn't think Kalani White was good enough to get selected to represent the Allies as a bottom ager last year, but he did get picked and also played. Nepotism may well play in Hodge's favour over the next two years.

Not a lot of decent KPP's in last years Allies squad. Plus I'm starting to think the Lions are playing a little bit of "hide the draftee" with some of our kids.

Gallop should have played most of the year for the Lions academy, then Allies, then our VFL team, but he was hardly sighted, apart from the odd game now and then.

That's interesting. Ashcroft and Marshall were obviously going to be seen by all recruiters due to playing in Melbourne every week. So perhaps they knew their points situation was going to get ugly if Gallop also received similar levels of national exposure? I guess time will tell. I've heard Ashcroft and Marshall are smashing it and could end up being selected in the best 22 for round 1. Haven't heard anything about Gallop at this stage...

Anyway, back on topic. We'll see how Hodge goes for the Lions academy before determining whether he deserves a spot in the Allies squad.

Ashcroft is still in the rehab group as far as I'm aware, and while Marshall is our new king of distance running, he's got way to many wings and mids ahead of him to crack the best 22 early on this year.

Really? Josh Dunkley was talking them both up to the media just two weeks ago and said team selection was going to be difficult with those two beating down the door. Maybe he was exaggerating.

Hodge will be a fringe player for the Lions u18s, if they pick more than a few over agers he may not even play.

Wouldn't be anywhere near Allies. None of the Lions bottom agers would be in that discussion unless they really jump out of the ground with their performances.

The new one to watch in the Lions u18 is late bloomer (or just late for them to notice him) Ty Prindable. He will be the starting on-baller with Annable and is a smooth moving left footer who will really surprise alot of people.

The big smoky remains Lillico. Kid is a star, but really needs a growth spurt.

Some Top 10 finishes at the recent SANFL U18 Centre of Excellence Testing day by a few of their SA 2024 U16 State Representatives.

Strong performances & good signs leading into their bottom age U18 campaign this year.

Few underagers F/S and NGA's in the Calder squad
Levi West - WB F/S
Blake Justice - ESS NGA
Jack Rutten - ADEL F/S
Sam Harris - NM F/S
I'm sure North already have a keen eye on Sam Harris, but it would be pretty significant if he ended up at the Suns and in doing so became the first Suns player to have a father who also played for the Suns. Daniel Harris (Harro) was of course an inaugural Sun who played in our historic first ever AFL game, first ever AFL win, first ever AFL home game on the GC etc. He was highly respected within the four walls and was in the leadership group during those years he spent on the Gold Coast. Not technically a father-son pick for us in terms of games played, but it's the closest we'd get for a while. Anyway, Sam is very likely to end up a Roo but I still can dream.

He’ll be at north but the question is what will his draft range be. And yes we are well across him, goes to our father son academy day every year

Probably around the 25-45 range at this stage

Yeah, I figured that might be the case. If he's a 1st-2nd round prospect then he'll definitely end up at North.

Half the squad from St Mary’s and Monty

Some bottom aged boys (from SA’s 24’ U16 Team) put up some solid numbers from round#1 of the SANFL U18 season.

M.Webb - 29 Disposals
A.Van Dyk - 27
H.Croker - 20
K.Mathews Hampton - 19
K.Edwards - 18
D.Cochrane - 17
Z.Young - 17

*G.Patterson (Injured in 2024) went for 16D and kicked 4.
Falls agonisingly short for Collingwood F/S. (Stephen Patterson 96 games).
One to keep an eye on.

Van Dyk and Cochrane are serious quality and look top 5 talents and Webb is pretty tidy as well. Edwards no mug either.

With Twomey recently releasing an early potential view on the Tassie list concessions, he mentions that they could pre-select and draft Tassie kids prior to nominating for the 26’ national draft.

If this eventuates, who are the kids most likely to now be unavailable in the national draft?

Bovill, Bugg, Dillon I think we’re all AA’s off the back of the U16 24’ Champs.

Any others that might be off the board?
