Tigers NGA Tanner Armstrong was best on ground for the Bushrangers in a typically industrious display. He won a lot of ball at stoppage with his clean hands at ground level a feature, helping to initiate a lot of his teams attacking moves. Tanner's disposal was more damaging than we sometimes see from him, hitting up leading targets nicely and releasing outside runners with handball.

Lovely.

He is an in and under type with good physicality and footy sense. Good hands, but not elite, kicking was good, but not great. Definitely looks like a later first or early second atm. If we are lucky he'll be available after our first few picks, and we get player who looks like being a low risk good return type.

No way was Tanner BOG. The stats watchers gave him that title.
Cody Walker had 10 inside 50s and was regularly damaging partly because his opponent, Tanner, was running around completely loose. Tanner had great tackling intensity in tight, but he wasn’t running defensively or putting on pressure elsewhere. Hard to see that in highlights clips.

Tanner’s kicking was much better than his first game where it was just poor, but you can still see how inconsistent he is in the clip. He’s great finding the pill, but an issue I saw in both games is he doesn’t get it clear to runners on the outside enough, quite a few short handballs sometimes to teammates not in great positions. It’s a vision thing as much as a skill thing. His clearances are not as damaging as the top class mids.

As I’ve said before he’s definitely got talent, you don’t get 30 plus without it. He improved from his first game and substantially from last year. But keeping it real discussing his deficiencies that you see more clearly watching the actual games.

Was just his second game, hoping his improvement continues.

Respectfully mate, interpreting your response it reads like you’re also only going off the stats and highlight videos. If so, i don’t think it’s fair to then criticise others for commenting who they think was best on ground if you’re doing the exact same thing.

Watched every minute of the last two games, except the patch where the footage went black in the first game.
Take my comments however you want. No skin off my nose, but some people don’t mind honest opinion.

That’s totally fair mate, apologies for miss interpreting your post!

No more discount and a premium for top 4 teams.

Looks like we will get a bonus pick too.

The AFL can’t postpone because Essendon and Carlton are terrible and the fact that Twomey, Beveridge and the the like discuss it shows just how bias they are. Essendon getting an end of first round pick is more of a help than if they postponed these rules to make it slightly easier to get Bewick next year.

And if its too expensive they can just pass which they won't.

Think he’ll be a good fit for us, at a low cost.
Looking at our 24,25 draftees, there’s not really an inside ball magnet amongst them (Smillie the closest).
I like what we’ve done taking mids that can hurt opposition on the outside, definitely the way the game is trending. Having one mid that’s going to be at the bottom of every pack fits into what we’ve already drafted.
Prestia will retire,
Hopper looks to be going downhill quickly,
Ross is just handy,
Leaves Taranto as our only real A grade inside mid.

What Carlton pays for Walker will be peanuts compared to what we'll have to shell out to add Parker Cotchin to our 2037 back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back premiership list. I don't know how we're going to do it.

That's what the under 18s is.
Everyone run around and get as many touches as possible to increase your stocks.

Its an unwritten coacing rule.

What about Dusty's illegitimate #1 pick children?

A second straight strong performance to start the year for Jackson Phillips, playing a significant role as his Stingrays registered a convincing win over the highly fancied Gippsland Power. Phillips powerful movement through congestion is a point of difference in his game, and he plays with a physical edge. He found more of the footy this week, though perhaps wasn't quite as damaging by foot.

Pretty much.
Teams identify early on who is a hope of being drafted and they just feed them the ball.
A premiership isn't a win or care - getting four or five blokes drafted gets coaches and staff a set at the table again.

So its going to cost blues and bombers a bomb and we're going to get an extra 1st rounder out of it? 🤔

Yeah might be.
I like him and obviously have a lot of interest given his ties to the club. He’s worthy of some challenging debates!

He’s got some real strengths with his inside intensity and as you point out might be a strong complement to our other impact player types. You could imagine him with big Smil, the Lawman and KMac2 and Hotton creating magic.
I just have that nagging concern about those deficiencies which are key afl attributes. I compared him to Ben Hobbs which people didn’t like 😀 but there are similarities in strengths and weaknesses and Ben was highly touted as a junior and drafted at #13. Could be many reasons why his development stalled.

It’s early days in Tanner’s draft year and the trajectory from last year so far is good. I caution on stats watching for him though, we know he can get it, it’s about quality for him. That first round game he had 36, yet he had very little positive influence on the game.

What’s this extra pic stuff?

If HVH goes well then I don’t hate the idea of having a gun ruck who can put it on Cumming/Lalor and Smilies tit for silver service for the next 15 years. Is he a physical sort of ruckman or a timid Tim English type?

Unless there is an absolute superstar mid you know you’ve solved your ruck problem now. Normally in the camp of you just fill a ruck need later so depends how special. I’ve got a feeling our decision not to bring in a ruckman last trade was due to the fact we have eyes on the young fella.

The mad Hatter is a mix between Gawn and English.

Every year there are prospects that missed out at the National Draft and use it as motivation to come back better the next season. Oliver Griffin may well be one of those, having put him name in the early frame for the mid season draft. He was impressive in this game, especially early, showing competitive fire and physicality along with the springy athleticism, clean hands and aerial attack to make him a real marking threat.
