I wonder how far on the arc when kicking around the body it is before its play on. Aka Wizard kicking after the siren.

Poor Redman.... his ch7 interview after that smashing. 21.19 (40 shots) to 13.5 (18 shots). it's round 1 and was ready to waive a white flag on behalf of Essing_DONE for season 2026!
He needs to have faith that somewhere in that crowd is a future Essendon player who may get to play in a winning final.
Une Jour.

How can Essendon and Carlton continue to be so poor? This crap has gone on for decades now. How many first round draft picks does a team need before it becomes competitive? Pathetic.

Strangely i thought ESS looked alright for the first 1.5 qtrs.
Problem is, like Carlton, when the heat goes up they cannot defend.
It’s as though they train their system/ball movement all summer but can’t clamp down or change tact defensively when necessary.
The best teams have multiple styles of play.

The rot starts at the top.

Watching Essendon, they are years away from being competative. That makes the Merrett decision even more perplexing.

They'd be better off with draft picks.

The rot starts at the top.

Not sure why, Essendon motorcade before the game included Kevin Sheedy. Not sure what they are celebrating now that hasn't been celebrate previously with Sheedy. He hangs over the club like a dark cloud.

The club appears stuck in the past.

The amount of times players are off the mark by 90 degrees.. either the umpires don't know the rules or they have zero depth perception.

I went to the game last night, it was the first time in years I had seen Essendon live when not playing against the Pies and I have some observations:
  • They are the worst coached side I’ve seen for some time
  • The amount of times players had no clue how to position themselves, take the right option or use the ball signifies that they are not being set up to succeed. It’s not a skill or experience issue, it’s lack of quality instruction.
  • Ben McKay is the biggest wage thief in the league. His lack of effort and lack of ability to be anywhere near his opponent in almost every single contest was comical. The fact that according to various reports his salary is not dissimilar to Naicos’ at the moment is disgusting.
  • It’s no wonder Merrett wanted out, and it’s equally obvious why Essendon wouldn’t let him go. Without him they would have got done by 100 points for sure.

I think Brad Scott is a generally rubbish coach. Seems incredibly overrated to me
