Our best player is contracted until the end of 2029, of course he has no interest in extending right now, what possible benefit is there to him to do that this early?

Get a grip man…
Umm? More money?
Maybe you should be asking why your club is trying to re-sign him right now on bigger money, then try to figure out why he's refusing.

Geelong re-signed Bailey Smith recently on bigger money even though he was already signed long term.

This is the nature of the industry.

There is less money to be made signing now, not more. What are you talking about?

Makes more sense that he lets the Butters’ and the Rowell’s set a vague market value for players of his calibre

Umm, Collingwood is offering Daicos roughly $2m a year for 9 years. It's highly unlikely he would get an offer much bigger than that.
The only scenario where that's "less money" now would be if he was considering Tasmania for the huge sign-on bonus.

And even if your conjecture was correct, that there's less money being offered now, so what? Contracts can be re-negotiated at any time. I raise the Bailey Smith example again; signed long-term upon but still got a payrise a year later.

What is your source on what the Pies have offered Daicos? Also, why are you here at all?

Butters was supposedly offered significantly more than $2m a season over 8 seasons, so it's not really highly unlikely at all actually.

You're right, contracts can be re-negotiated. We have 3 and a bit years to cross that bridge. Nonissue

Bailey Smith was “only” on around 700k per season with his initial contract. I think it’s fair to renegotiate after his first, almost Brownlow season with Geelong.

Daicos is reportedly earning $1.1m - $1.4m per season at the moment and he’s acknowledged that he’d be happy to earn less if it means we can attract quality players.

Also as gouki88 had highlighted, no doubt his management are gauging what Butters and Rowell will be getting. With the likely increase in the cap prior to 2029, he’ll demand and get more money when he’s ready to start contract talks.

Also NAS is earning $2m a season ffs. Every club in the comp would offer Nick this money (except for Geelong where he’d be offered multiple farms).

Midweek Tackle.

The "issue" is that Collingwood is keen to sign him long-term now, and Daicos is the one saying no.

It's highly unlikely Collingwood are going to offer him more money than what he's being offered now, so what is he waiting for?

It's not so much about whether it's fair. Geelong just had to do it. There is no way Smith and his agent would be content with $700k when he's the best player at the club.

Daicos is on $1.1-1.4m but if he went on an open market, he would easily get a $2.2m over 10+ years offer. This is exactly why Collingwood are happy to offer him big money now, but he's saying no. It just raises a few questions.

A question that readily springs to mind is what are you doing here?

Nope, still not an issue despite your best efforts at muckraking. There are countless reasons for whatever is going on behind closed doors, none of which we nor the clowns on Midweek Tackle are privy to

Did I not just answer this?

The free agent market / trade period over the next 2 x season is massive with: Butters, King, Rowell, Neale, Walter, etc.

He has said he will take less to allow the club to attract more. Thus the cap space we have available after finally paying off Grundy, Treloar and players retiring.

Edit: Oh god, the mid week tackle is being used as a source. I’m still waiting to land that big fish that Twomey said we had secured last season.

The club would love to tie him down now.
You don’t think if he signed a massive long term deal, it would send a message to prospective recruits that he’s here to stay, so come with me and join so to speak?
However right now, we are trying to convince him that he should stay by trying to rebuild it on the run but who we bring in is going to be critical

We were in the Ben King race for over what 2 years and we aren’t even now the Melbourne based team he is potentially leaving to join if he does indeed leave the suns.

I look at a team like hawthorn —how are they so attractive to prospects ?
Do they do the work better than us?
Is it their coach?
The footy boss?
Their list manager?
They seem to be in the mix for every genuine star player —-it’s crazy really
I’m not suggesting they will land everyone but as it stands they seem to be front of the queue for just about everyone that wants out

The negative lens on that one is bigger than the Hubble telescope
I try very hard not to be.
Many will throw it out there just because they don’t like negativity however it’s not my intention to just be all doom and gloom for the sake or it —and many are passing it off as such but I do not enjoy it
I have been around here a long time and this is the first time I have genuinely believed we haven’t got a good handle on the wheel

Players sign long extensions to lock in the security. Daicos couldn't be any more secure. He could miss two years with injury and he'd still get offered a huge contract.

I don’t have issues with critical discussion of the club. We got plenty of issues But read your posting. We aren’t anywhere near as bad as you make it out to be. We’ve lost something like 6 close games this year. We aren’t a basket case. We’ve been without our best crumbing small forward and Intercept defender all season. Lost our best goal kicker Elliot. Take out Watson, Gunston and Battle for the hawks and see how they go for the season. The Hawks without Gunston are a 4-5 goal worse team such is his importance.

Then your comments about nobody wanting to come here. Objectively it’s just not true. We are a big successful well run club. There’s no reason players won’t come.

Also no reason we won’t turn it around next year with some players back and additions.

The swans finished 10th last season. Things can change quick with personnel returning and tweaks to game plans

Don't feed the nuffie troll. 40 posts and most of them are about Collingwood.
I think we should feed him a systematic diet of "Champ" "Slugger" "Sport" "Pal" "Sparky" and all the others I've missed.

Lol we landed a bigger fish in Buller than anyone Hawthorn were able to trade in last year

He's saying no, is he?

When did the club & Nick tell you this?

Nice idea. I might call him schnooky. Or maybe schmoopie.

I did like that name from some reality show from years back, the bloke who called himself "The Situation".
