Nick Blakey
Nick Blakey is a prodigious talent with a laser-sharp left boot, an outstanding overhead ability and searing pace. The QBE Sydney Swans Academy product booted 21 goals in 19 games in a brilliant debut season en route to winning the club’s 2019 Rising Star award, and while he added a lively element to the forward line last year, he’s likely to play on a wing or in the midfield in 2020. Nick is the son of former Fitzroy and North Melbourne champion John Blakey, who’s had a variety of roles on the Swans’ coaching panel since 2006.

Nick Blakey
DOB: 27 February 2000
DEBUT: 2019
DRAFT: #10, 2018 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: University Of NSW-Eastern Suburbs (NSW)

Could be Bedders, just reminds me of Adam Hunter for the Eagles, one of the last great ones! Unfortunately for us.

Happy with utility too, just want to see him play further forward in any case!
It's another way wank ers in the media say things to make them sound important

I don't see Blakey as a forward. You mentioned Hunter, but he was a good contested mark - that is not the lizard's forte. His attributes are speed and his kicking, so he is more suited to a role off HB or wing, although wingmen don't get the ball as much as half backs (as a general rule), therefore his best position will be off HB.

He may go forward in a 'break glass' scenario, but it means he can't use his attributes to best effect any more. He then becomes a skinny (quick) leading forward who isn't a contested mark. We already have a few of those.

Blakey went forward I reckon twice in 2025, kicked 3 v Gold Coast in a quarter and did a lot of damage v West Coast albeit against an opposition already on mad Monday after half time.

Used sparingly up forward but I think he could be a game changer. Not with contested marking but with his pace and height he is an extremely difficult match up, as you mentioned.

Hunter was the example as he was a true swingman, mostly started back and if WC needed a spark, he would be thrown forward in the 2nd half. I think the Lizard could do the same, especially if he is being nullified in the back half which happens from time to time.

We have actually just traded away out our best tall skinny mid forward too btw!! So there is an opening!

We all see the game differently which makes it interesting discussion, I just think the Lizard possess a unique talent which could allow him to be elite in all 3 areas of the ground, horses for courses type thing.

His best position is Half Back but I think he can be just as good as a pinch hitter forward or as you mentioned on the wing or even high half forward for a point of difference.
