They’ll do the surgery to ensure there’s enough recovery time so he doesn’t miss any preseason

But up until that point he’s able to train and maybe play so why not stay the path
the reason it's best to have surgery early just in case something happens and need to do it again which will prolong playing even further.

I can see both sides of the argument on this one, but given the year is a nothing year, I would just get the surgery now, sorry kid, but we have invested heavily and you have a long important role to play at this club for the next decade plus

Confidence-wise, for the kid to play games will be a positive.
Playing games whilst concerned about his shoulder , will be worst for his confidence .
His first taste of CFL football shouldn’t be whilst under an injury cloud , it is just a stupid ridiculous concept to even give it two thoughts.

Just get the surgery done now, be ready for next season.
What’s the point in that when we can give him a taste for a few games, then shut him down later in the year… giving him enough time to be ready for the start of preseason. This is a very common injury that many players play through throughout their career.

Yze wont play him for just a few games, reckon he ends up playing most of the year then gets injured again and out for preseason. lol

That wasn’t the vibe I got from the injury reports and interviews

all seem to understand that the surgery will happen it’s just about timing it so he can play some footy this season

This is what Yze himself said on SEN

We understood there was a chance this might happen. The positive is it wasn’t a bad one on the weekend. We’re going to give him four weeks of strengthening to give the kid an opportunity to hopefully come in and play some footy, knowing that eventually we’re going to have to fix it.
“He’ll have a month of training and strengthening and if we feel like he’s able to play we’ll give him that chance. But because he’s such an important part of our future we won’t take any risks.
“If it means we operate we’ll discuss that as well. If there was a risk of doing more damage we wouldn’t put him through that, we’d go and do it right now.””

Annable at the Lions injured his shoulder in his first game and is booked for surgery on Thursday to get him fixed up immediately.

We should have done the same with Cumming and still could have played him later in the season if the recovery went well.
Annable dislocated his shoulder in January and then dislocated it again. Cumming had a subluxation.

surely they cant say theres zero risk of doing more damage, id hate to see another judson clarke call made here.

I’m only guessing but I assume the only immediate risk would be having it “pop” out again without any real risk of long term structural damage for them to be going this route

As others have mentioned we all know blokes who have shoulders pop out all the time and just essentially pop it back in by themselves so it’s a similar kind of thing where they just need to repair it to stop it from happening in the first place

When is the mid season draft ?
Maybe we get the surgery the week before then put him on the inactive list and take a young player to have a look at the rest of the year or maybe a 22-26 year old ruck

Im presuming the MSD is end of may which is around round 12
So if Cumming comes back round 6/7 and plays 3-4 games that could work out well

Know plenty of footballers and netballers who have done both shoulders and Achilles- some multiple.
To a tee they all see the shoulder is toughest to get back from and reoccurring.

Had a family member in a car accident and the shoulder injury was the worst. 100% spot on.

You’re not suggesting the club may have got it wrong? , because that is sure as shit is what your post sounds like

Surgery isn’t the answer to everything. As my old used to say, if it cannot be fixed with a hammer, it cannot be fixed… and he was a the most hopeless handyman ever
Get a bigger hammer

Shoulders are like Pringles. Once you pop, you can't stop.

But to compare a shoulder to an Achilles is wrong. Plenty of players never play again after an Achilles rupture.

I read Ooze's statement and it was very clear to me

  1. He will need surgery at some point
  2. His situation isn't that bad right now
  3. So, we can try and give him a good recovery and;
  4. if he is OK he gets to play a few games
  5. If he isn't OK he gets surgery.
  6. Unsaid, but likely, is that if he does play they will look at surgery sometime mid season, so that he ready for pre-season training.

Seems pretty straightforward.

Maybe I can't read though.
