Does anyone think that Weitering may be a little too measured?
He certainly doesn't play like someone who plays for himself but I feel he is coming across a little 'me first'

I know that's not fair but I'm feeling a bit of a Tom Boyd demeanour about him.......that may be a good thing.......I don't know.

If anything maybe a little to serious yes but ya cant knock a kid who strives to be the ultimate professional. Im just looking forward to watching him play and listening to the smack talk come out while he is dishing out schoolings ;)

Hmm haven't noticed Harker, he does seem very mature and measured a bit nurdy maybe?

Silvagni's will sort him out

Weiteirng's on-field ways are very contrary to his on-camera persona.

He's measured on-field but in all the right ways...............and aggressive.

No.

Don't see/hear it at all.

And I'm a tremendous judge of character.

He's personality (from the brief interviews I've seen) reminds me of Harry taylor, as does his playing style.

I guess you want your defenders to be measured and consistent while your forwards to be more "look at me" type rock stars.

Not sure what you mean about a "Tom Boyd demeanour"...I know people who work at the Dogs and the feedback on his attitude is enormously positive, to the point of gushing. Supposedly an unbelievably mature, level headed kid, a fantastic professional and great leader. These aren't people who have drunk the kool-aid either - they all acknowledge the contract is an enormous gamble.

Not sure why we have to start denigrating a kid just because he chose financial security over playing for us...Not to mention a far better chance of success in the short-medium term.

Where is the carlton arrogance in this post?

"Let's have respect for boyd, blah blah blah"

Come on, he chose them over us..boooooo!

Exactly what I'm saying...............and it's hardly denigrating anyone. Not sure where you got that from.

I think it was the "me first" comment, which led to the Boyd comparison. The only interesting comment I heard from Weitering was pre-draft when he said "I can't come in and fix everything, I can do what I can do but 95% has to come from elsewhere" - whilst 100% accurate, it was an interesting thing for a kid to say.

In any case, I'm more than happy to have an 18yo who is obsessively professional. Coupled with Cripps' freakish work ethic, hopefully we can start developing a player-led culture which demands the highest standards on and off the training track.

Just reminds me of Judd really. Consummate professional, probably seen as boring and a bit different, but reckon we'll see bits of emotion break out now and then.

That's a good comparison. Clean life, professional attitude, very level head. Had a bit of a laugh when interviewed after the draft and talking about Bolt's height and suggesting he tried to emulate Johnson and Sanderson while they were interviewing him, so not entirely a stick in the mud.

I do feel at such a young age he could alienate himself in a real blokey environment if he is too serious but that could just be his media face.

Yeah, fair enough but Boyd does 'come across' in such a manner.
Now, that doesn't mean to say he is but he does project so, as does Weitering.........which may not be a bad thing as long as it's kept in check. Cripps on the other hand projects the opposite but who knows................he may be the most selfish bastard around :)

As TRP said - you were talking about a me first attitude and the post was pretty negative over all. Apologies if I misconstrued it.

Just trying to create a little debate and playing devils advocate.

Not fair to judge an individual on the way he/she projects in front of a camera and especially so at such a young age.
He's almost too mature for his own good. Don't forget to have some fun young fellow. :)

Without exaggeration, I am blown away after watching Weiterings recent interview. The kids barely 18 and it was so calm and measured and even had just the right amount of humour in there to appease the reporters. While I am at it, Jack as well. Those two guys just on that maturity and level headedness for the future give you so much confidence. Not to mention they are living under the same roof together. That is our future right there. Absolutely delighted.
