Over the next 8 months I'll keep you all up to date on one of our young shining lights. Ben Sinclair.

Taken number 62 in the 2010 National draft his two pre-season games so far this year have shown him to be a fierce tackler and mighty quick over short distances and from the limited opportunities we have seen his set shot on the (relatively) big stage have been pretty good!

Will we see Ben Sinclair make his debut in the Black and White seniors this year? Watch this space to find out!

Details and Bio as taken direct from Ben Sinclair on collingwoodfc.com.au

Details:
Number 28
Height 181cm
Weight 76kg
DOB 01-10-1991

2010 season
Ben Sinclair jumped on the scene in his first season as a Magpie, playing in two senior practice matches in the preseason. Displaying great hands and a knack for finding the footy, Sinclair succumbed to shin injuries, which plagued his season resulting in post-season surgery.

Career
Vic Metro U18 representative in 2009 and showcased his speed in the Victorian screening with 2.90sec for 20m. His first season at the Pies was promising with the midfielder playing in two senior practice matches. Succumbed to shin injuries which curtailed his progress.

good man! if there any video that you would like of this kid im sure TD or i could help you post some.

And this is another reason why The Collingwood BF community is so addictive, alive, enthralling and downright awesome.

Would love vids. His chase, tackle and set shot from the other night would be the perfect start! If you pm me a YouTube clip I have a spiel to write up about his NAB cup games to date that would go nicely with it.

Cheers!

Ben Sinclair has so far been selected to play in every week of the NAB cup. Barring the Round 1 pint sized match against Carlton he has lined up in the Black and White and found some significant game time.

This exposure that he has had with the top level combined with the willingness Mick Malthouse and his cohort have had to give Ben games appears to be a sign that he may be closer to AFL selection proper than I first thought.

While he hasn't lit the world on fire in any of his matches he has shown that he knows the game plan and is willing to do his part for the team at any cost. His fierce tackling is evident in the above clip awesomely supplied by Mars and he also knows how to kick a set shot.

His continued selection during the NAB Cup would be a massive confidence boost for the kid who must be aiming for senior selection this year.

If he gets selected this week against Essendon then the likelihood of him getting selected at the top level will once again rise.

I will continue to monitor Ben's progress through the year and I will keep you all up to date on how he travels.

Good luck Ben! I hope you smash 'em in the VFL this season and put the Senior players on notice that if they lapse at all we have a ready made replacement.

STATS:

NAB CUP Round 1 V Richmond:

NAB CUP Round 1 V Carlton:
DNP

NAB CUP Round 2 V Sydney:

NAB CUP Round 3 V West Coast:
4 Kicks, 6 Handballs 1 Mark and 1 Goal

In his own words
What type of player are you?
A small/medium player with speed and clean ball handling as well as being hard at the ball.

Which AFL player do you most resemble and why?
Chance Bateman. He is similar in size and runs quickly through the lines. He wins the contested football and delivers it well.

What are your strengths as a footballer?
I’m courageous and determined- I never give up. I have great speed and skills.

What parts of your game would you like to improve?
My kicking distance, strength and fitness need some improvement. As well as perhaps putting on some weight.

Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?
I support Melbourne because my father played for them.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far and why?
My dad has been great for all his support and encouragement. Also my brother has given me lots of football advice as he recently played AFL. Finally my physio as he’s helped me overcome injuries.

Ben has been named as one of three emergencies for tomorrow night's NAB Cup Grand Final.

Right beside premiership star Tyson Goldsack and another young fella Tom Young.

This must mean he is pushing towards the 22!

Ben Sinclair has been rudely left out of Mike Sheehan's top 50 players.

This obvious oversight has been noted and I will write to Mike about this error in judgement. I expect this error to be rectified with a full apology to Ben on the front page of the HS before the end of the week.

In other news Ben didn't play in the losing VFL side last weekend. I am not entirely sure why. It does seem that a whole host of players didn't play this practice match. Possibly worried about burnout towards the end of the season in case he is called up to the 1's?

How many injuries suspensions to our midfield/forward line would it take for Ben to be called up? If he tears it up in the 2's then we may see him sooner rather than later.

Collingwood Fantasy Football Wrap

BEWARE: Some of the players with premiership medallions will inevitably miss out on games this year. Many of them barely played half of last season, and the 'role-playing' nature of the Magpie gameplan makes it hard to predict if Blair, Brent Macaffer or the perennially sidelined Tyson Goldsack will hold their places in the face of challenges from Krakouer, Ben Sinclair, John McCarthy, Luke Rounds, Tom Young, and the apparently rejuvenated Leon Davis.

In the fantasy football lands Ben Sinclair is rated as a $97,600 Midfielder for DT and a $110,200 midfielder.

Probably not a good pickup at this stage of the year.

Who says Ben Sinclair is a little underweight?

Compared to Brad Dick here he is enormous!

Admittedly Brad is ducking a little bit....

So our man Ben played today in a VFL practice match against the Bendigo Bombers and by all reports he really looked the goods.

The below snippet is from Frankie23 who managed to make it to the game this arvo! Thanks Frankie!

Benny Sinclair: Love him, he was as usual a nutcase today, throwing his body everywhere. Don't be fooled by his size, the kid can play. Generally he used the ball very well, which has been a criticism of him from some quarters. The most pleasing aspect was his spread from the contest and his forward pressure. He is pushing down the door IMO.
