Player Watch #3: Dion Prestia - Charged By Police (Innocent Until Proven Guilty)

Was clean with his hands and can find enough of it but clearly his kicking is poor, can't deny that. Don't think he's ever been an elite kick but he should be able to hit 20-30 meter kicks no problems. That shank kick made me think his knee is giving him issues when he kicks.

this year was never going to be a world beating season for Prestia. But i think he adds anotehr dimension to our midfield and means guys like Rioli dont need to go in there. will be fully fit come finals and will have a massive year next year

It's mental more than physical IMO. He is going from playing in Queensland to playing in front of an 85K crowd.

Once he has that breakout game and gets used to the big stage playing for a club with a big supporter base, then I think he'll become good for us. Mentality can even throw off basic things that you normally know how to do.

Geez, you only had to read Yarran's bio at the time to know he wasn't worth what traded for him. If an outsider can get that, what the **** were they doing in at Clubland?
The pressure was to land a big fish if i remember correctly.and yarran was our big fish lol.
Why were we not chasing Mids or KPP'S.

LAST YR said at the time we should be keeping all our picks and trading into the first round if possible.
Wanted Brodie Grundie 18months ago and said if he was there at our pick we should snaffle him. Exactly what was needed and what the club itself has said we need to go after for yrs.
parfitt with the vickery pick we traded for Caddy and it still left 29 which i would not have used on Bolton but gone tall on someone like macreadie or cox who were both there.
I thought pick 29 could have gone on a needs basis especially if we had earlier picks. What i did not get was we had taken so many sml fwds in recent yrs and had so many smalls on the list yet we went to that well again.
Said as much at the time was totally against the direction we took we needed to stay in the nd and target older blokes like Barlow, Petrie who were dirt cheap to address glaring holes in the short term while juniors developed.

A couple of sliding door moments and there were variables to this other older players we could have targeted.
Brodie 189cm mid , Parfitt tough 180cm inside mid. Cox/Macreadie kpps, Nankervis ruck, Graham inside mid , Garthwaite tall defender ,
f/a Barlow 190cm mid , Petrie kpp/ruck .
Rookie glass-McCasker kpp.

This is not hindsight this is the sort of thing i pushed for at the time.

Oddly crickets in here after he plays a great game.
Building nicely and coming into form towards the right end of the season

Only just started training twice a week. He's been managed fist half of the year and now he's up and about his second half should be more like what he can do. Looking forward to it.

Was definitely elite by hands against Nth - bye will do him no harm so should be ready for a cracker against Sydney. It is how they will manage the rest of the season that worries me because he makes such a difference to our handball chains.......

He easily had his best game of the season last night so taking into account him being managed for the first part of 2017 the future with him is promising.

That run down the boundary and all the time looking inboard for an option before having a ping was great camera work. He has some class and poise.

Sounds like he's good to go by what Dimma said

Good player. He'll be right, too much class not to be

He was easily in our best three or four last night. I've actually really liked him this year. Our side just looks better with him in it.

Hopefully he keeps this form up and he has a great second half of the season. We're going to need him at his best or close to his best come finals time. (If we make finals, which I think (hope?) we will).

His kicking has let him down but he is so clean otherwise. No doubt his injuries and lack of training has been impacting his performances but last night I reckon was just a glimpse of what he can do when he's right

That game will do no end of good for his confidence.
He will only get better as well.

I laugh at the people that went early saying he was a failure based off 9 games. It's a five year contract, buckle in.

Pretty much already been covered above but he also looked to be moving really freely last night.
Was able to accelerate when needed and covered plenty of turf all night.

they one play on the wing he put in about 10 efforts, brilliant

Dimma is openly optimistic, he's paid to be. With what Dion has had done to his knee (from reports), he'll take the season to rebuild muscle strength around it and slowly minimise pain and swelling. I agree with Prodigy it is not just about 2017 with Dion.

I disagree. His best footy might be next year but he will be expected to be playing close to his best in the second half of the year. I fully expect him to be performing if we make finals, which is what he is paid to do

We've been pretty good this year. Imagine if Prestia finds some form? Liked his game last night despite a few miskicks.

Went at 69% disposal efficiency from 20 kicks and 15 handballs. His 26 pressure acts was only behind the Captain at 27. His 493m gained was second only to Dusty. His 8 clearances was second only to Dusty.

He had a good night.

How does a limited preseason make your kicking go to shit? There's always some excuse. There was a kick in the second, no pressure and he kicked it like the unco kid at school who gets a game because everyone feels sorry for him. There is something physically wrong with him.

'Limited pre-season' gets trotted out a lot when Player A or B plays an ordinary game, but rarely when they play a good one.
My favourite is the "I bet he's still suffering the after-effects of that glandular fever' when Lennon plays an ordinary one.
