Player Watch #32 - Corey Ellis

There is no doubting his football ability. At 21 he is going from a boy to a man and his football will reflect it.

I hope like hell he kicks on because we really need to start looking for the next generation of not just players but stars.

A star? Small steps first!

we've been lucky in some sense that two of our guns in cotch and dusty showed a lot early. I don't think Corey is ever going to be that level but he can be a very good 4th or 5th stringer. Will have to compete for midfield time in a team thats batting deep there at the moment. He has a big challenge on his hands to break in there so he has to develop in another role so he can get senior game time. I'm just not sure what that position is - looked good forward v the hawks last year so maybe there. Dunno

Peter Wilson, the man had a temper but a liking for his self importance.
Very passionate

Once saw him get hit in the head by a football kicked by a little kid while they were doing a warm up lap at Bayswater before a praccy game (same game Martyn knocked out Michael Mitchell).
Pur accident by the kid, didn't stop Wilson pithing it back at the kid at about 120km an hour. Poor form!

yes wilson was very smug..... tiges threw top $$$$ a him and organised a tigerpub for him to run, i reckon willo put too/spent much time at that pub on his feet 10 hours a day and was flat for his footy and it showed... when contract and business dealings expired, he was outta the joint like lightning.

If I recall didn't react too well when KB dropped him one week. Thought he was above it.
Though played some good footy for WC.

I guess to be fair, it wasn't a great time at Tigerland in the late 80's and the shiny new WCE in his home state was too hard to ignore. Won a flag so...

Tried his guts out until about midway through his final season in 89.

So the RFC website puts up a highlight reel for Conca but not Ellis who had a better game.
To be fair I think they only did that because he was mentioned in DH’s presser.

No ..... RFC has joined Goldy's apparent crusade and conspiracy ;)

Comparisons to Matty Knights are a way off. Given Knighta had nearly 20 possessions on debut as a 17 year old, who started that year in the under-19s and then through the reserves and by game four had over 20 touches and two goals from seven shots on goal.
Knights won a best and fairest in year three, still the youngest ever winner of our great club's best and fairest, and in only his second full season (he played four games at the end of his first).
Season four Knights had 535 possessions and 16 goals. Impressive numbers.
Yep one of the best ever. Just had time and space like very few.

Wish I recorded the game, I want to see that clearance he did in the final quarter where he made space out of nothing.
He needs to find that balance that Pendlebury and Bontempelli have. They appear to always have plenty of time, and they don’t really play with much intensity, but they get bucketloads of the pill and are extremely damaging with it.
Pendlebury has always been skinny, but he is also quite tall. Bontempelli has a bit of a Fyfe build.

We say it all the time but it comes down to confidence, not only within himself, but his team mates need to feel confident giving him the pill.
I watch him pretty closely and his positioning is excellent in general play, but he doesn’t demand the ball like Dusty does.
Obviously completely different players, but you’re always going to give Dusty or Cotch the ball before CEllis.
The more solid games he puts together I think we will see a consistent increase in his stats and his effectiveness because his team mates will want to get it to him, because more often then not, he will make something happen. He has always been like that and Hardwick has said it before as well.

Just really hoping he goes on with it now considering it appears his injury woes are behind him.

grabbed the loose ball cleanly, looked one way, went the other... was surrounded by 3 or 4 bombers so he weaved and moved sideways to open up a little gap for himself then went straight through it... leaving the bomber boys flat footed and wide eyed. used his full measure and hit the top of the square.

Well TI, I guess if he did in fact actually 'grab the loose ball cleanly, looked one way, went the other... was surrounded by 3 or 4 bombers so he weaved and moved sideways to open up a little gap for himself then went straight through it', I guess four years in he finally has another highlight to add to that goal he kicked against Essendon in 2015 that some continue to rave about ;)

I think why people focus on those highlights is because it shows what he is capable of. If, the keyword being if, he can put it altogether and live it up to his flashes of brilliance he will be a top liner.
Although I would be happy with him becoming a consistent high level footballer that can sometimes do what others can’t.

There is certainly a bit of that ... highlighting what he is capable of.
But there's also a desperation in it to overstate and exaggerate a single piece of play to make him seem better than he is.
I'd be impressed if said poster said the very next centre bounce he chased down a Dons midfielder and forced a turnover.
One solo highlight wreaks of desperation t prove his point. Every AFL footballer has one highlight, well, except for Oakley Nichols. Though he did kick a point to put us in front in a game didn't he?

Well, in the same quarter he laid two tackles on Teppanyaki stopping him in his tracks. Does that qualify?
I don’t wish to discuss JON for obvious reasons.

Apparently in his eyes Lennon Conca Morris Hunt and Hampson have all done similar acts. So fast that the cameras missed it all.
