More info on Dougal Howard:
Dougal was the clubs first pick in the 2014 draft, selected at pick 56. Dougal played in one of the clubs pre season matches against Richmond, but wouldn’t make his in-season debut until mid year after a late injury in the pre season. He played 14 matches at SANFL level, moving between being a lead up forward and spending some time deep in defence. His best performance came at Full Back on Clinton Alleway, who he kept goalless in the second half of a great come from behind victory late in the year. 2016 is an important year for Dougal. We’ve seen both Shaw and Harvey delisted at the end of their original contracts and Dougal will want to make a difference and show his worth to the football club. A strong pre season to improve his fitness and upper body strength will give him the best chance to play some great SANFL footy and continue his development.

With the expected selection tonight of our first pick in last years draft, what are our expectations this weekend of young Dougal Howard?

I rarely attend an away magpies game but might make an exception just this once to be able to see this kid in full flight.

It’s been a long and for some, a painful wait to see our highest selected draftee don the prison bars, especially after the NAB game vs Richmond where his attack and skill set showed so much potential and finesse for a young, tall lad.

He’s a different player to Harvey and seems to have a bit more versatility than a first year Mason Shaw which excites as he may just possess the quality traits we need to have our own Josh Bruce or Jeremy Cameron in the making.

Anyway, don’t let me get too ahead of myself. Looking forward to the game and expecting this thread to be moved to the front page should he have a good game so we can take all our eggs and pop them into Dougs basket.

Up the mighty mags

As good as it was to see him kick his 1st of 00's of goals for us it was better to see the boys gather around him
and the best bit the smile on his face. He's taller than Mitch and a lot more mobile looking.
Just picture him in another yr or two of weights and running.
Billy Frampton looked very promising and of course not forgetting Logan Austin and Jesse Palmer
To our recruiters........thanks :):):) leading to:D:D:D
Think we saw at Richmond Oval yesterday the beginnings of a bright future for PAFC
Now where's the Bex I need a lie down

Carn the Maggies

To Forzaport, whilst his height is listed as 195cm I looked VERY carefully on Sunday at 1/2 time and he's taller than that :D
Was especially keen on comparisons and he's taller than Mitch and naff all difference to Mason and amazingly not a lot
shorter than Redden.
His snap goal in the 2nd Qtr was eyebrow raising. Sure he's only a kid but his ceiling is mouthwatering.
Not suggesting his official height is deliberately wrong just that maybe he's still growing

There is only a 7 month age gap between the Doog and Harvs, Howard turned 19 on 25/03/15, and Harvey will be 20 on 17/08/15.
The Doog is listed at 199 cm and 93 kg, and Harvs is listed at 196 cm and 100 kg, and both could still have plenty of growth left in them.

Big blokes take a lot longer to develop, but the club is in pretty good shape long term for height with the two aformentioned, plus Austin and Frampton, all showing promising signs they could make the grade. :)

Sure we're going thru' some frustrating lows/losses at the moment but Richmond Oval on Sunday had me pretty upbeat.
#7 for the Maggies caught my eye a few weeks back and so watched him Sunday as well :)
Moore has frustrated me for a while and that ridiculous 3wks for the ump contact put me in a bad mood, but Geez Moorey
grab your next chance at AFL with both hands and demand a regular spot. Ollie could do with some 'grunt' help.
If its not to be then Clurey given an extended run. I think we have you stitched up 'til '17 so maybe your one of the anointed ones

Louis Sharrod - good young lad, few years too old to make it one might think.
My old man knows him through a few of his tradies and always notes how much of a good bloke he is. Agree, has been playing very well of late. Happy for him to remain on our list as a top up.

A relative?!

Nah a thread was running on bay 13 about footballers names and I chose Dougal Howard as my favourite name in the AFL.

Classic name has the potential to be a cult figure. Just get him in

A lot of us are keen to see how he develops. Trouble is,under Ken,we are expecting his debut in
2017 at the earliest,as a sub of course, before being dropped.

will we see dougie against the cats?
Howard could be the 'missing link' in Ports success puzzle this year. If we could only fit him in the team I believe Howard could take the competition by storm. He is still learning but has everything needed to be a star player.

Agree

I don't want to be a defeatist but without a full forward to support Dixon (Chf) I can't see us winning a flag.

Trengove might grow into the role but I feel Howard is the man. Ryder could also do the job but that robs Peter to pay Paul.

Even westhoff is worth reassigning to the role. But our current structure won't cut it.
