Samson and Hopper both struggle to keep their feet at the contest. Effectively makes it 4 on 2 at centre bounces once they go to ground.

I don't like writing players off, but I certainly hope we give OHB more of a shot from here on out.
Not many young rucks can compete with Gawn, but it was not only in the ruck that he looked all at sea, just zero strength to play AFL which isn't excusable after so long on an AFL list.

Samson has no strength through his hips and that’s why he gets pushed off the contest so easily. He hasn’t got the physiology to play at the elite level. I’m surprised we signed him for 3 years, as it’s obvious that it doesn’t matter how much he tries, he won’t make it. I feel for the kid.

The deal was excessive but to be fair, his first couple of years in the VFL were promising.

Somehow he has got worse the closer he gets to peak ruckman age.

Neither Ryan or OHB are going to win the hit outs, or take contested marks around the ground. But at least OHB will give our mids some assistance/ cover at ground level.
OHB has also managed to change his body shape,and has decent size now . Ryan looks like he’s training for a marathon.

He was passable against Port as the #1 ruck coming off an injury and limited pre season but if we are going to put him as #2 ruck off the bench it is a complete waste of space and puts pressure on us with rotations.

44% TOG and it’s basically ruck or nothing with him.
If you’re fresh off the bench you can’t be immediately gassed and offer nothing when the ball hits the deck.

OHB would’ve been better as second ruck with similar TOG and physically would’ve matched it with Gawn better.

If only Ryan would at least catch a ball up and get a kick away once in a while.

OHB won the hit outs comfortably in the VFL, but total doesn't count how many times he actually took the ball out of the ruck and generally handballed it to a team mate, would have to have been 10 odd times. Still needs to get stronger through the hips, but his ball control and space in traffic is easily AFL level. When was the last time any ruckman at Richmond AFL or VFL had 28 disposals.
