2009 Season:
Cloke’s 2009 got off to a horrible start when he was attacked on New Year’s Eve while holidaying on the Sunshine Coast. He suffered facial injuries with fractures to his cheek, nose and eye socket. A few months later, gunshots were fired into Cloke’s home. Threatening letters were also sent to Cloke. All of this seriously affected him mentally and he received counselling. On the football side of things, Travis Cloke added 22 games to what now represents 100 career AFL matches at only 22 years of age.

While playing second fiddle to John Anthony as the main target inside 50, Cloke pushed further up the ground and in turn averaged a career-high in possessions (15.0) and tackles (1.7).

Career:
He played 15 games in each of his first two seasons (2005 and 2006) after Collingwood committed to selecting him as a father/son pick in the 2004 AFL Draft, and showed enormous promise, which culminated in his outstanding 2007 season, when he emerged as one of the premier centre-half forwards of the competition, winning the best-and-fairest at the tender age of 20. In 2008 he had to contend with a depleted forward line but still managed to lead the team in contested marks. The following season was a difficult one learning to contend with John Anthony receiving the majority of the inside 50 deliveries. He still managed 22 games to take his career total to 100. The son of former Magpie David Cloke, who played 114 games for the club between 1983-89, and younger brother of former Magpies Jason and Cameron (who now plays for Port Adelaide), he will be looking to take his game back to the heights of 2007 and better in 2010.

This is a video I made, not very good but I've never made one before so go easy.:D

(NOTE: These are NOT my own highlights. These are taken from other youtube videos so thanks to favs, mars and a few others. I hope that's ok but if not just let me know and I'll take it off youtube.)

This guy, surely, is the difference between Prelims and Premierships for the Pies. Is he going to get it togther?
Yep, one of our most important players (Presti wins IMO). Can he get it together? Well we don't know, but we sure hope so!

Didn't notice him too much today. He had some nice kicks around the ground which I like, as he is actually a good field kick. Would still like him to make more impact on the scoreboard as well though. Had the goal from the idiotic Minson 50m penalty, but he probably would've kicked it out on the full if he didn't get the 50.:p

Some of his stats...

13 disposals at 92% efficiency
11 kicks, 2 handballs
5 marks, 2 tackles
3 contested possies, 10 uncontested
5 I50's
1 goal

Was Cloke's fall from grace last year overstated?

I know the Champion Data Player Ranking and statistics aren't everything, but consider this:

Travis Cloke Career CDPR
2005 - 50
2006 - 49
2007 - 76
2008 - 77
2009 - 73

Apart from kicking less goals, Cloke's 2009 was almost the same as his 2007 season in all statistical categories, and (again with total goals taken out of the equation) slightly better than his 2008 season.

I think he has really stepped up the last 2-3 weeks. He and Dawes are forming a great partnership and they are working a lot better than Cloke/Anthony. Obviously the last 3 weeks have all been big wins, so it will be good to see how he (and Dawes) go against Freo/Geel in the next few weeks. These are his averages the last 3 weeks:

13 Kicks
4 Hanballs
10 Marks
2 Goals

The last two are the big ones, the stats that key forward's star in. Trav is getting marks and he is kicking goals but the great thing is that we don't need him to kick a bag. If Cloke can average about 2 goals per game for the season, kicking 45-60 for the year, it'll go a long way towards us being there on the last day in September.

That goal he kicked right at the end yesterday was a beuty as well.

Keep up the good form Trav.:thumbsu::thumbsu:
