Best on ground today in the VFL match against Casey and got stronger as the game went on. His endurance and fitness a clear standout. Also has a burst of speed which he showed towards the end. Neat kick too! Lock for Round 1.

I didn't watch, so I can't comment on his game too much but I sort of get the vibe that he is a good VFL player and that's it.
I mean it didn't cost much so at worst he is depth.

Well you can't say that until he plays seniors. He has some senior attributes though. First, he can kick. The pass late in the game was from the 70's stab pass style. He has the running ability of a good wingman, has a burst of speed. He got back to the last line of defence to help out the backs and he is a solid unit, so not easily pushed off the ball.

Right now he is in a race with Ralphsmith. Both similar in size and that they move like wingmen, but Ret'ko has better disposal. Hugo is a decent mark, so it will be interesting as the season goes on.

I will spew if they play Ralphsmith over Retschko.

I know Retschko was recruited to play Kmacs old role and obviously that’s where he’ll line up R1 if selected, but I think a player with his speed/endurance combo ( and he looks physically developed) could be useful in a number of roles. I mean if it dawns on Yze that’d be handy to have a defensive mid in the team that can go with the very best midfielders in the comp, then why wouldn’t you try and develop this type.

He has a role if he is good enough, definitely need players that bring what his game-profile suggest.

If he struggles to get into the side, then its because he is not good enough by a long stretch. We desperately need a hard running, speedster type

I wouldn't class him as a speedster, but he has a pretty strong burst of pace off rip. Just like Dusty wasn't a speedster, but could put the foot down and accelerate and get significant distance from his opponent off his first 4-5 steps, Retschko seems similar in that way.
