Ah...the rumour mill is really firing up now! This is what happens when the club keeps you in the dark. We fill in the gaps...ie ..the truth.

So I think the club suspects he's already made an unofficial agreement to go to another club next year. He will be played at the back end of the season to pump up his trade value.

"Richmond forward Liam McBean provided a strong target in the Friday practice match and took a couple of big marks to display his potential."

Got a mention in the AFL writeup vs Geelong 2's.

I thought he couldn't take strong contested marks and was just an oversized forward pocket...

He's contracted atm but if he starts to feel he has not chance of breaking into our AFL side we will lose him and I believe that will come back to haunt us. He's needs to feel like if he works his butt off and does everything he's asked to do that he will be rewarded. Gifting a completely raw rookie 3 NAB games and offering McBean none is a slap in the face imo.

Depends if said player has worked their ass off in training and followed coaches instructions. I'd be interested to know how Chol has been this preseason.

Told you this months ago....

My reading into it is this... The club have asked him to do X. He thinks hes done enough to meet whatever X is, the club doesn't.
Rather than bust his boiler to go well past X to prove to them he's ready, he has had a bit of a sulk and done nothing extra.

And all of us sit back and think you really couldn't do X to be an AFL footballer, we'd do anything!

Good point. They could have spelled Chaplin for him up forward though, or any forward really. Team balance isn't a factor in a scratch match
Tough discussion with Chappy to not have him play any nab.
'Chappy, we think you're vital to our success...but not down back...dave has gone ahead of you...and no..not up forward...chol and bean are ahead of you there. We've got a role for you but we need to know...are you allergic to oranges?'

The issue with McBean is he gives no defensive pressure at all. The club has told him that he won't get a game until that part of his game is corrected. When he works hard the other way he will be rewarded.
ppfft!~

The club just keep coming up with nonsensical excuses why he isn't playing. Not enough "AFL standard" goals, not enough contested marks, not enough defensive pressure etc etc

YET

Beanie at VFL level has taken more contested marks, made more tackles and kicked way more goals than Ben Griffiths.

Griff has played 49 games. Mcbean 6 quarters of senior footy. Go figure!!

For your sanity and health its best to ignore anything our coaching staff say about Mcbean.

It's mostly static.

PS. In those 6 quarters of AFL footy Beanie played his part in kick starting our season in the 8 goal second term against Collingwood in rd 7.

Got dropped, came back in rd 9, had 9 possessions in a half against Fletcher (in what turned out to be his last game) including three contested ball wins against him. Fletcher beat him in contested ball once, the rest were halved.

Got dropped the week after and Eltoned ever since.
