I'm in the market for a forward around the $340K mark.

I think these are my best options:

Scott Lucas ($338K) - at his best a $600K player, but can/will he produce that sort of form now?

Alwyn Davey ($344K) - had shocking run with injuries the last two years, but great tackler and goal kicker.

Travis Varcoe ($336K) - also a very good tackler and useful goal kicker. Hasn't shown a lot in three years so far, but killed it in the prelim against the Dogs last year (GF was average, but he wasn't alone there), and now he is in his fourth year and the word out of the Cattery is that he's had a huge preseason and is poised to take the next step.

Fourth option is to pick up a rookie like Watts or someone and pocket the difference to put towards future trades.

Thoughts?

Lucas - just hope that he kicks a few big bags and scores well and then UPGRADE!

Davey - i think he is an okay choice, just need to find out about his fitness. Can he score big though?

Varcoe - i would stay away from him as he isnt going to get much run in the midfield for obvious reasons and just wont kick enough goals.

I would go Lucas but none of them are certain to score well.

Dew? Could have a big year if fit. Not 100% sure of price though.

Higgins, Vespremi or Houlihan could do the same job and earn you some extra change if y ou dont alrady have them.

I would steer clear of Veszpremi as he didnt manage many games last year and is pretty expensive considering that at 286k. The safer option of those three would be higgins and on the plus side he is the cheapest at 223k.

Lucas. Has been a consistent SC scorer for a number of seasons. Take a look at his last 5 seasons. Miles ahead of the other two options in my book.

Has to be Lucas

What about Jack Riewoldt?

Had a great preseason game and is certainly one of Richmond's best key forwards with Richo playing basically wherever he wants.

Think Richmond will be a top eight side this year and Riewoldt will need to kick 50+ goals for them to make it.

Thoughts?

Lots of talk about Higgins. Not sure he's a bargain - he has serious upside, but just as likely to get injured also.

Didn't realise Lucas was that cheap. Think I might go and pop him into my team!

I have Riewoldt as well, not confident on him but at only 311k, i'm willing to take the risk.

He's made his way into my team as well. You have to figure there's going to be a lot more ball into the Richmond forward line this year. I had the option of him or Fevola, with Riewoldt allowing me to upgrade to a premium back.

Lucas is just too cheap not to.

He's likely to play quite a bit as a roaming lead-up CHF (much fitter than ever this year) getting a lot of marks and his kick to handball ratio should be similar to his first NAB match where he scored very well. Add in his generally efficient disposal, improving contested marking and what should be an improved goal tally, he's a bargain definitely on the rise IMO.
