Player Watch #35 Charlie Curnow

geez, it's three games, there's some ridiculous overreactions on this board ... curnow will be fine ... in fact, more than fine
will be kicking goals and helping us into finals
Even though he didn't kick a goal last week he was still important to our structure , he didn't need Amartey to do a hayward

1-3 in 2014 when we got Buddy and he kicked 7.5 in the first 4 games.

Curnow has 5.5 in the first 3 games this year and so I don’t think it’s the worst outcome. What happens in a 3 game sample size isn’t going to necessarily reflect the full season

Hope so.

Need him to do something down the line.

Love to see him kicking bags but if we are in trouble and he cannot clunk a mark down the line on occassion it will hurt

His defensive pressure has always been garbage, said this plenty of times

It won’t change that’s just him

We knew that but why is he dropping sitters? and just very fumbly in general something i very rarely saw at Carlton.

Its why i said in the Autopsy thread does he have some sort of finger/hand injury? it looks like he is playing full on anxiety

I'm not worried at all. He'll be fine. Just the media grasping at a story.

What I find way way more concerning is the massive hole left by Errol. And ugh... The horrible replacements. It's going to be a long year.

One thing I will say is if McCartin played against a forward like that he would get about 7 frees against

Watch Charlie's second goal he is held before the mark then his waist is held his arm and he is taken around the head , it was like that all night.

Has always been that way with Charlie. He gets a lot of free kicks, but there's many that go unnoticed as well. Defenders panic around him.

Pressure has never been his strength. If he's to get back to his best or close to it, he will need to get on the move a bit more. Get further up the ground and bring others into play, create separation on the lead, or crumbing ground balls with agility. Last night it seemed like a lot of delivery to him was on his head rather than into space for him to lead to. What I expect from Carlton, not the Swans.

I was one of the people more critical of paying the price that we did for Curnow and said a few times it was a massive overpay.

But at the same time, even I think that starting the Curnow is a bust talk is premature. The way Cornes seemed to be starting to talk about it this morning on SEN made me think he's getting warmed up to do exactly that, and even I think that's an overreach.

Yes, he was well beaten in the second half, yes, he could have changed things up and made a difference. But we also could have adjusted our entries into the forward 50 so that we actually targeted players in space, and we still need to figure out how to use Amartey, McDonald, and Curnow together. I've liked the way the three of them have moved as a unit at times, and the way that Papley and Rosas have worked at their feet, but it is still early days.

Hopefully over the next few weeks we see better movement and more composure going forward.

He's not a bust he just need to work out of the pressure

Lance Franklin in his third game for the Swans was held goalless at the SCG in a 43 point loss against North.

Yeah? plugger kicked 3 goals 4 in his 3rd game in a win against the Crows

Wow and what a last quarter we had as an aside

Ben Ronke kicked 7 goals in a win against Hawthorn at the MCG in his third game for the swans

We can make all the excuses we want but the reality is Curnow needs to play a lot better than he has so far or we will struggle to make the 8, let alone be seriously competing for a flag.

Well If he just gives us what Hayward was anyway .... what's the point

If we cant make the 8 with 1-2 injuries then we have way bigger issues than Curnow and i would question why we gave up so much if we misread where we are.

Expectations are nuts on Curnow we struggled at times with Franklin in his prime its much much more than just 1 player.

Expectations on Curnow to not be completely useless are not nuts.

Its the end result of poor drafting and neglecting talls for so long look at Freijah went for a pick in the 40's.

We get desperate and end up doing big deals not really in our favor.

I'm not deciding yet to be clear , I just thought it was like getting a new car and we are in the highway and it's not quite picking up the speed we need, and what's that rattle ?

What would be the pass mark? 40? 50? goals i guess it depends what your expectations are.

We knew the questions marks around him the lack of pressure etc so why would we think it would suddenly change at 29yr old?

This is where the Gulden injury is like a pure troll.

The forwards had a mare last night and delivery was awful.
He was a non event in the first two games as well. McLean could have gotten on the end of a few against Carlton and Brisbane. So would've Hayward.

I am just saying he needs to play a lot better than he has so far.

If we are still talking about ball delivery and sore hands in round 20 then it is going to be a long year.

Time will tell i suppose the dropped marks and fumbles i agree that i dont understand can only think he is trying to hard?

Just think its a wee bit early for some of the criticism but thats just me

Seen how many good picks we have had that low ?
