Seems to be a pretty stock standard pre-season exercise for AFL clubs & local football clubs.

Does anyone have any times of AFL players and any idea on what would be a good time just for local football?

Around 9;45 - sub 10 mins is elite for AFL. Most players should be around the 10 - 11 min mark. Obvious mids closer to 10 and the bigger guys near 11.

I had to do sub 12min in u16 to make the rep team, got about 11:30 but that wasn't quick haha

Masten runs sub 9.

Believe it when I see proof.

Edit :From the following link, if he did the time trial which I'll admit, I'm not 100% on, he would have had to improve 2 minutes over 3kms since being drafted. Do not believe it unless he never did the trial.

Was a few years ago as the club prefers 2km time trials now. It's definitely true though - he's a great runner.

"i did it in 8:59" - braybrook ruckman

My PB (so far) for 3km TT is 10:27, but in saying that I train for marathons and do not carry the muscle these AFL guys do.

To put the top AFL runners times in perspective (low 9mins) the marathon pace (for all 42km) of the top runners in the major marathons is about 8:48 (for 3km) pace. These guys would run 3km TT in close to 7:30

i'm 6'7 and 130kg of muscle son and i run 8:59 lol

Quote from Ross Lyon about halfway through

"From the first day Col arrived at the club, he arrived in poor condition. He couldn't complete a three-kilometre time trial, and it's continued on pretty much in the same vein on and off till this point."

Didn't Masten win national titles and set a few records as junior? Could well imagine Masten and Blicavs recording times like that. Josh Kelly ran 9:32 at the Combine in 2013 and Kane Cornes reportedly ran 9:15 a couple of years back.

Tried 3km last night and only just scraped in under 11:00 and needed 7:00 for 2km today. Times like Cavka's 5:56 for the 2km, wow.

I'm not entirely sure but I think so. I know Will Schofield set a few 800m(?) records as a junior FWIW.

11:00 is a good effort for a non-elite sportsman

I did a 3km thread years back.. All the testing is now geared towards 2km!

My last 2km I ran 7:57.. Last 3km 12:31!

I've never been a great runner. When going through the TAC years ago my PB was 11:41 and I was around 25 out of the 45 listed guys.

How is it that Colin Sylvia can't complete a 3km time trial?

Have they left a bit out and he wasn't able to do it under a certain time? Or can he literally not run 3km continuously?

I'd say he could finish but either didn't finish in the required time or just gave up. As a Melbourne supporter, this doesn't surprise me he is full of talent but just doesn't want it badly enough, he has cruised through a 12 year career on the back of potential.

As for times of 3km time trial, most AFL mids should be around the 10:30 mark, for local players around 11;00 is very good going.
