Collingwood's Irish rookie, Kevin Dyas, has finally recovered from the serious hamstring injury that cut short his first season with the club last year.

In 2008 Dyas played 13 games in the VFL as a half-back rebounding defender. He averaged 12 disposals, 3 marks and 2 tackles per game.

Blake Carcella describes him as; "A very competitive defensive player who is still learning the game. He came across from Ireland and had improved througout the year.......hopefully he can continue his rise..."

The boy from the County Armagh has been named in the team for the
Collingwood vs Williamstown VFL game on Saturday 18th April at Visy Park.

Good luck Kevin. Take this opportunity to show what you can do.:thumbsu:

Good to see the lad getting the twang back in his hammys.

From the CFC website:-

41. Kevin Dyas (4k, 4h, 4m, 2t): Kevin’s first game since recovering from a hamstring injury last year. He was strong in the one-on-ones. Good to get the first one under his belt.

That'll do nicely :thumbsu:

Dyas played in the VFL Pies victory over the Bendigo Bombers on Sunday, April 26th

This report from piespies1995:

Dyas – Thought he was v.good today especially coming off that horrific injury. Took kick outs in bad windy conditions and didn't miss a target. This was the same during play, reckon his efficiency was up around 90. Played on their small, who didn't have an impact on the game although Dyas always seems to get the better of his man usually not having a great impact himself. Would like to seem him run off more. Ideal for our back pocket however in the seniors.

Dyas report from the CFC website.

The VFL team is 2-1 after enjoying good wins against Geelong (round one) and the Bendigo Bombers last week. On Saturday they meet reigning premier North Ballarat and will hope that their younger players continue to show good form.

Coach Gavin Brown says:

“Kevin Dyas, our Irish recruit, played only his second game back from his hamstring injury last week and he played a terrific game. He’s really stepping up, so he’s one to watch out for. He’s been showing some terrific signs playing down back as a small defender, picking up those small forwards.

Dyas played his second VFL game for the season against North Ballarat, when the Pies lost to the reigning premiers by an anorexic 5 points.

For the following reports Dyasnamic Media is indebted to Pipeline and piespies1995, who were present at the game.

Pipeline;

Dyas - He played OK and took the first overhead mark I’ve ever seen him take without looking surprised that he held it. A couple of his kick-ins were classic low bullets that hit their target laces out.

Piespies1995;

Dyas - Played deep in defence on the small all day. I’d say his man was lucky to have two kicks all day but he has to influence the game more himself. Got caught holding the ball but made a great tackle in the last few mins. Again destroyed his man as a defender but need more offensively.

Kevin Dyas
will play his third game for the VFL this season after recovering from a hamstring injury sustained last year.

The VFL Magpies will look to rebound from their five point loss last week when they take on the Box Hill Hawks at Visy Park on Sunday 10 May at 2 pm.

Last week’s loss leaves the team on the cusp of finals, two wins from four matches which leaves them in eighth position.

Collingwood face the Box Hill Hawks who find themselves in similar circumstances with two wins from three matches.

Both sides have listed extended squads to be finalised 30 minutes before the opening bounce.

Utility Chris Bryan has redeveloped his game this season in the VFL to incorporate a scoring threat. After four matches the big man leads the side in majors with nine (he kicked four goals in 17 AFL matches last season).

Shannon Cox
was one of the side’s best last week, the 23-year-old played on the wing and collected 21 possessions, laid seven tackles and kicked one goal.

Magpie supporters will recognise number four running around in the yellow and brown. Sam Iles has made a new home at the Hawks after playing seven senior games for the Magpies in 2006-07. Iles was delisted by the club at the end of the 2008 season.

271-game veteran Adam Uze, who retired last season playing for the Melbourne Football Club, has joined the Box Hill Hawks this season. He was named in the side’s best in the round three 19-point win over Coburg Tigers playing in a defensive role.

Entry to Visy Park (Royal Parade, Carlton North 3054) is FREE to all Collingwood members. Please note when Collingwood is the ‘away’ team entry will cost five dollars.
