I'm still not completely sold on Banks but he is well ahead of Short now imo, will be tough for Short to get this spot back, he only has himself to blame really.
What more does Banks have to do lol. Playing well.

Was his best game for the club, I've been hard on him. but he is playing well I will concede now.
I was probably a bit wrong on him idk. still think we need another running half-back. with the loss of Rioli.

This hasn’t aged particularly well. Banks is developing beautifully. His courageous mark going back with the flight today ticked the final box I was unsure of. 200-game player.
I’m definitely not of the opinion he’s a 200 game player. He certainly looks to be improving though so hopefully the trajectory continues

He is 100% a 200 game player
30 games in and getting 25 + touches last 3 weeks
We are just seeing the beginning of this bloke's career

Watching Ash for GWS that’s the sort of level I’d love for111 Banks to get to
ash is definitely getting elite numbers this year, and banks since taking over shorts role is catching up to those, but funnily enough their games on the weekend were quite similar on paper

ash had 36 touches @ 83%, 6 score involvements, 8 turnovers 797m gained

banks had 28 touches @ 92%, 7 score involvements, 3 turnovers, 491m gained

the major differences in their stats is the disposal count & metres gained

but ash took 10 kick outs and banks only 2, so both had the same "real" disposals, one was just carried more by kick outs, which is where the metres gained gap would come from cos each kick out is usually +60m for free unless you kick it to the pocket

ash averaging 7.75 kick outs last 4 games with 29.5 disposals

banks averaging 2.5 kick outs last 4 games with 26.75 disposals

so since banks' move to the back line, if he was taking as many kick outs as lachie ash, he'd been in the "elite" disposal average (maybe 26.75 is already elite, but his avg is tanked by his earlier games)

This is his 4th year in the system, so it’s not exactly like he’s a 2nd year 30 gamer. Not rooting against him, just giving context.

He’s shown the ability to be a good distributor the last 4 games or so, decent pace as well. Not at rioli level but not many are.

Question marks are just whether he can keep doing it and also how he actually defends. People highlight the mark he took, was a good effort. Need to grow on that but also just work on defending in the contest. The best half backs can defend really well and then also attack and hurt them the other way, that’s where he needs to get to, because imo the disposal numbers etc are a bit inflated with hbf.

Off to Tassie a decent chance based off the length of the deal.

Zero incentive for us to only want 2 years to line up with them. Agent probably pushed for it.

Sammy just penned a 2 year extension to his contract.
Had a highlight season that has shown his progression with greater opportunities.
Onwards Sam to bigger and better things in the future.
where did you see this

* Too slow just seen the last 2 posts

Should have been a 3 year extension

Meh can’t worry about it
It’s smart by his management to play it that way and it works for us in a way as well

The better he preforms the greater the compensation we get

Who knows he might feel invested with what we are building because by that time we will probably be on the upswing again

Then we need to line up Mansell's contract to end same time and give Seth 7 years

Just smart by his manager as he knows it will be a strong negotiating point
Nothing stopping us from extending him again on a higher contract if he continues to improve

He will be a target for tassie for sure he’s out of contract 2028 conveniently when tassie should start in afl. If he keeps up this form they will overpay and poach him.
Only chance we have is we are pushing for finals in next few years and he doesn’t wanna go back to a rebuilding team

If he keeps improving and then does leave than we will get a lot for him won't we.

If he keeps up 800m per game of accurate kicks I would guess that is top 10 pick level. Maybe better given where Tassie would be and his leadership traits.

At that point he is A grade and knocking down AA selection.

That is a huge assumption. To improve to that consistent level would be awesome.

Yeh great a top 10 pick.. even if we did get that , no guarantee that will be a good player. And usually takes a few years to be proven/unproven. Not optimal for our rebuild

Not saying I want to lose him. I want to keep Banks. Looks fantastic.

He seems to have dropped off a bit over the past few weeks, after being probably the story of the year for our non-rookies for the first 15 or so rounds.

I'm not worried about him at all, but if we were running into finals he might've needed to be "managed" for a week.
