Seems to be a lot of 'extreme' opinions on here at the moment.

It's either: The NAB cup doesn't matter, we'll be fine, or it's : We suck so bad after the NAB cup that our season is already over.

How about a middle ground. We played bad in the NAB and I'd really expected a lot better than what was an unacceptable performance, however, we weren't at full strength and while there weren't many positives to come out of it, at least we have another month to pick up on the negatives that were found out.

Having said that. I'm not signing the stupid petition :) If people want to lose their cool on this board, I say bring it on - it's a major part of why it's here isn't it?!?

Not saying that the NAB Cup doesn't mattter, just that a little perspective is needed. It was disappointing, but I'd be more concerned if we fell out in the first round in Darwin and then copped a couple of "serious" injuries. Eade's approach in this has been to ease players through the preseason games and not take chances with players if they are not 100%.

I think perspective is the thing that's really missing on this board at the moment. I don't think many of us would deny that we have certain issues on the field including a lack of midfield depth, a lack of class in the key forward areas and most alarmingly we seem to lack the fight that characterised our teams when we had a lot loss class. However the squad we put out on the park is the same one essentially that made the finals 2 years ago, which while lacking Grant and one or two others has a better ruckman than last year and another proven forward target. I don't understand writing the team off before they've even played a real game. Sure Friday night was disappointing but we ain't dead yet.

Hey peoples, can anyone tell me if we have one a game after returning from darwin, its not an excuse, but it cant help.

IMO fix our forward line and we will be ok.

I find it sad that the same people who are so negative now are the same people who were talking about how good we were against the roos.

If we can persistently play the way we played against the roos then we're in for a good year if not then it will be up and down.

Therefore I hereby sign my name to this thread.

I think what you have said is the reason why we are a bit upset. We played a very good style of football against North. We were hard at the ball and are our pressure skills were excellent. We wasted alot of opportunities going forward, but I suppose we can live with that early in the season, but against Essendon it was a completely different story. The lack of consistency in performance and perhaps effort is the reason most of us are frustrated.

But what you just said is your answer it is lack of consistency in the pre-season there is plenty of time to address that before the real stuff.

The biggest concern is that the way we played against Essendon was like the way we played late in the season last year. Most of us would have liked some of these areas to be addressed. Of course there is always going to be teething problems when putting in new structures (Minson at FF, Wight at CHF, etc..) but the lack of consistency of effort (well thats the way it looked) across the ground was disappointing.

Still as you pointed out it is only the pre-season so let's hope better times are ahead.

I was pleased we escaped with the win against North, I thought we desreved to win but we're lucky if that makes sense? But at the sametime I couldnt draw to may conclusions from it because the conditions are so unique and poor. Youd get a similar gauge watching a team on the moon playing in zero gravity.

Pretty much agree with you and definitely have my own misgivings. Although looking back at all our wins and losses last year (and yes I did rewatch all of those game, sad I know) we did not show the amount of spirit and hardness we did in that one NAB cup match against the roos in any of those games. I guess what I'm saying is take something out of both of them not just the loss.
