Crikey that seems like a lot.

I know that SA is a big place, but 43,000 recorded strikes in one night?

I can remember half jokingly wondering about lightening strikes when I first went to Football Park and found myself in a stadium full of metal benches.

If I ever head down to Footy Park again I think I will be wearing industrial strength rubber boots after seeing that number of strikes in one night!

Just had a kick a$$ storm here in Ballarat, it snuck up from the opposite side of where they normally come from which is where I normally expect them & bang, the thunder friggen near gave me a coronary, the lightning is grouse tho.

Still shak'n,
Evan

Was absolutely awesome last night!! Was at a friends house on the beach and we saw all the lightening come in from Yorkes. Literally a lightning strike every 5-10 seconds. We could see it coming in at about...10ish last night and it didnt go until 9ish this morning.

Best thunderstorm ive ever seen.

i hope you set the camera up for a long exposure shot, ive been hanging for an electrical storm in sydney for months since i got my brand new whiz bang camera (that was in may) and its hardly even rained since then

It was night & I was travelling to Mt Isa & ran into a storm that was orange over the mountains with rain drops like golfballs.

Had to travel at 30kmh on the highway with my nose on the screen & wipers on overload when this horse ran straight across in front of us.

There are kick a$$ storms up there & few fences so expect SPOOKED Emu's, Cows, Roos & 'whatever'.

Freaked,
Evan

We had a great lightning show a couple of weeks ago here. Was walking inside at one stage and a bolt came a bit to close for comfort. Came down right above me and the dog, absolutely **** myself.

I have been in a car with a bolt closer than comfort & thought, $hit...... what if I had been outside.

Have also had a bolt strike (during the night & sounded like a bomb) a 100ft Eucylypt tree approx 100ft away, it sheared a 1ft bark spiral from top to bottom.

Keep the Rubbers on folks

Rubberedup,
Evan

i was driving through manly during a severe electrical storm last year and this bolt of lightning hit a telegraph pole with the light on it. the light box exploded and all these sparks went flying... quite spectacular.

does anyone know if cars are dangerous to be in during a storm, with the rubber tyres and all??

Where do you normally get them from? Did this one come from south? Cuz we had a huge one here yesterday. Spectacular it was! We think one hit the hospital too, cuz the fire siren went off and all the trucks raced off to the hospital. Dunno. But I love watching them!

Yep it was from the South, definately the same one, where were you when it hit (what town) ??.

Hate having to unplug the Computer during these storms, being a computer technician I have seen far too many fried Motherboards & modems to risk it.

Still cooking,
Evan

Do you know of Woorndoo? It's just south of Lake Bolac, if you know where that is. If you still don't know, I'm in the middle of Warrnambool and Ararat. At the time I was in Mortlake, which is just south again of Woorndoo. I see why it wouldn't have been on the normal side, cuz we normally get them from your way!
