after reading ,many comments trying to draw up a conclusion....in my opinion...he knew 5-6 years ago and was excited about potentially becoming a good afl footballer...the thought of being homesick wouldnt even had crossed his mind....this oopotunity comes rare for anyone let alone an irishman who wasnt bought up on ur game.....connor u have plenty of time to be with your family...and u have every off season also....become what u set out to be and demand high finanicail deal....but your an idiot if u just walk out on a game that could set u up for the rest of your life....sorry but i think his mindset is a bit soft....he as a player is certainly not soft.....sounds a bit dame beams to me....jmo
Everyone has their reasons. Some don’t place money above all, problems here, family illness etc, could be a range of things. Easy for us as all we care about is missing a player

He doesn't have plenty of time to play for his county. I'd expect that'd mean more to him than playing for Essendon despite the lack of pay (and there are ways around that). Plus house prices over there are relative cheap and he could probably go back debt free and then some already.

Now that just makes too much sense. That’s a thread-killer. Can we go back to the emotion-charged speculative comments instead?

If it was homesickness I think he'd have stayed for the team photo then hopped on the plane and headed home, the fact he skipped it all together to me says he has some pressing family issues that couldn't wait and the club/media are using homesickness to keep his privacy.

Whatever it is hope you're ok Conor.

Two seasons left on his contract at Essendon and turning 24 in about a month. He'll still be 25 when he comes out of contract. In the AFL you could expect another 5 years, perhaps 10 if he avoids injury and doesn't lose his pace. Gaelic has a similar age bracket from what I understand.

I'm wondering if his brother's marriage has anything to do with it. I know at one point one of his brothers was living in Australia with him, and possibly also the brother's girlfriend? Circumstances may have changed. There's also a brother that is playing Gaelic, so stories from that one may be influencing what he wants to be doing with his life. I don't know which brother is which haha, they may all be the same person.

Understand if he needs to be home.

Really hope his family are ok and there’s nothing serious going on.

What are the consequences to making these types of decisions regarding his pay packet, eligibility to rejoin the competition and our cap? (assuming it’s not temporary)

That's not him?
