Points For this season,

Brisbane, 483
Carlton, 490

Just like to point out that we have out scored Brisbane so far this season and their 2 power forwards.

I know its a long season but we have to be happy with the effort so far in kicking winning scores.

Players avg. at least a goal a game in 2010;

O'hAlphin 11
Yarran 9
Betts 8
Garlett 6
Houlihan 6
Simpson 6
Henderson 5
Murphy 5

Brisbane are in a bit of strife. They won't win without Brown kicking 5-6 goals a game, and his chronic hip injury has flared up again. The only other option is Fev, who's getting on a bit now. They have no quality small forwards, a slow midfield, and a list chockers with recycled's. This could get very nasty.

:)

Yeah, spotted that this AM and posted it in the "Sack Ratts" thread.
I suspect that our points for this year will be comparable, if not better than our own last year.

We have also been very consistent with our lowest score of 75, only worse than Freo (91), Swans (88) and Doggies (78).

Our defence is also about the 5th best.

We have played the worst three, and among the best 2 sides, so hard to get a good line on it, but I'd be surprised if much we didn't keep level with "the best forward line EVER", if not stay ahead. :thumbsu:

bb, i don't venture into those sort of threads. so sorry for stealing your thunder.

it just goes to prove (again) that a winning midfield is more important than a power forward(s).

No probs. Quite happy for somone to start a thread over it.

I have been looking a bit at the over hyped "Fev/Brown" combo vs our own forward line and vs the "Brown/Bradshaw" combo.

IIRC Bradshaw never sooked on field, so averages would suggest that the Brown/Fev combo will come out on top.

Also, Fev and Betts vs Setanta/Hendo/Betts/Garlett/Yarran/Kreuzer is a clear win to us.:thumbsu:

Given that it dosnet matter how many points you score so long as it is 1 more than the opposition, we should be looking at these figures in relation to how many we concede.

Our percentage atm is 125 theirs 111, but we have played bottom 3 they have not...

Lets revisit at round 11.

Brown shouldn't have played on Saturday night, and if Voss continues to keep his head in the sand, he'll run his best player into the ground, and do much more damage to him, rather than resting him like he should.

Everyone else can see that he is injured. You're not fooling anyone Voss.

A quick look at Geelongs forward combination in the last 3 Grand Finals will tell you that yeah a power forward be nice but not absolutely necessary to win a flag.

2007 Mooney/N Ablett
2008 Mooney/Lonergan
2009 Mooney/Tummy Hawk

A strong midfield, with good defensive values will take you a long way to a GF berth.

That's a good point. Geelong also have (had?) great medium forwards who kicked a heap as well, plus their midfield kicked plenty. I guess the point is there is no ONE type of successful forward line structure. You don't have to have the traditional one dominate FF and CHF setup anymore. In fact, unless the FF and CHF can play elsewhere, the traditional setup makes you very predictable... a problem the Lions are confronting now.

I like our current setup because it's versatile and unpredictable. Hendo or Setanta can be pushed up the field, or even into defense. Plus we can use several different players in the lead-from-the goal square role. Means we can adjust things to target the opposition defensive weaknesses. Eddie and Yarran can also go into the middle on occasions if needed.

:)

I too noticed this today. Not only have we scored more points than the Lions, but (from memory), so too have every other side in the top 8. Best forwardline ever indeed...
