There’s been no mention of this but valid question. A lot of stations have cctv on roads, parts of their land to avoid theft.
Absolutely! That was exactly the reason for my question hey, I’ve been around plenty of remote and regional farming and station properties and it’s extremely rare nowadays that most don’t have them, I mean plenty of these working properties more often than not also have them at each water point to easily monitor any issues for stock purposes in addition to at least the main entry points/gates.

Not only is this case extremely sad it’s also very intriguing!!

Don't you need internet connection to have CCTV?

So there seems to be two schools of thought on each of these propositions:

1. That Gus would be capable/likely to run/wander a long distance away from the house in a very short time, so that he would be totally out of range in 30 minutes, and within three hours would not be able to be found by police / ground searchers with lights, or trackers. So he simply got so far way under his own steam that he still hasn't been found.

And

2. That it is perfectly normal / reasonable / and acceptable parenting to leave a child of Gus's age and capabilities unsupervised for 30 minutes or more on a property such as Oak Park.

I don't claim any special knowledge or authority, but I don't personally favour either of these.

My issue with this is that if you support proposition 1, how can you possibly justify supporting Proposition 2?

It’s amazing the mental gymnastics and lengths many people will go to without information, propositions, crazy scenarios, wild theories, previous experiential learnings, while others prefer De Bono’s black hat

Makes for an interesting chat.

Hundreds of square kilometres searched and not a single clue.

Very odd.
Yep time to turn around. Interview everyone of the families regular social acquaintances, business suppliers, contractors. health providers, chemists, re-school teachers, pastors/priests, neighbours, extended family, supermarkets, stock and station agents, sporting friends, vets, mechanics, hairdressers, social workers, etc. Might get a clearer picture when Gus was seen by non family.

What's not amazing to me is the capacity of people to simply accept everything that is reported in the media as undeniable fact.

Media is such an ass, and it gets worse every year, it’s hard to know where to look, listen and read.

Buying a newspaper seems so long ago for me.

What about the butcher, reckon you missed them in your collect ?

No.

You can use POE as a local network.
I don't see ethernet cabling as a viable solution to cover a property of that size. Wireless and wireless repeaters, powered by a combination of battery and solar maybe. Cellular technology is sometimes used these days as well (to control things like irrigation, automatically operating some gates etc.), but not sure about the penetration of local cell towers. All this stuff is usually found at more sophisticated commercial setups, not a relatively small sheep station.

I do believe that the full cell tower dumps from the two (or 3?) nearby towers might provide relevant data for analysis, as well as CCTV (if any) along the closest main road/highway, and from local shops / businesses / petrol stations.

I was thinking of just the homestead and its immediate surrounds, given Gus played nearby and allegedly wasn't known to wander off.

Sad and bizarre case, horrible as it is law enforcement can`t assume that everybody related to Gus is not suspicious. In cases of child disappearances close to home/at home it is often somebody from there although we all know there`s been some infamous cases of stranger abductions of children.

The police never release anything approaching a lot of information to the media or others in cases like this/criminal investigations - common sense why they don`t.

It could be that Gus was taken by being lifted into a vehicle which explains lack of footprints, either by somebody close or a passer through whether they lived in the Yunta community and were friendly with the family, were workers for them/acquaintances or a stranger passing through who has a job driving through that and other remote communities. If the gates were unlocked at the time.

It could be that Gus actually disappeared or was taken earlier as in days before, even a longer time period before - trackers especially Indigenous ones know their job. Not finding any evidence of Gus wandering (apparently the footprint/print has been discounted) is a big red flag regardless of who could have taken him or been responsible for why there is no trace of him.

However, there could be a much stranger element here - I`ll never forget Joe Hildebrand some time back when The Project had people on it who didn`t tend to subscribe to the same viewpoints/political leanings.

He talked about the disappearance of his younger brother on a family trip on a hike I think it was. He was there and then he wasn`t. No place for him to hide, no evidence of anybody around. Incredibly frightening stuff.

i live in regional SA and many land owners have trail cams setup at locations due to vandals. Recently a friend caught a guy who had been doing donuts in his crop , trail cams picked up his number plate

From the looks of this property though, vandals would have a long way to travel and not much to vandalise IMO.

I agree but then again in our area there have been people who’ve had their sheep stolen. In one case these people were towing a caravan that was completely gutted and they filled it with stolen sheep. I guess if there had issues with vandalism or theft they may have some sort of security measures in place.

Paddy’s disappearance is a very sad and baffling case.

Is that the name of Joe Hildebrand`s brother?

Yes, it is. There are people who tend to believe unusual events have to have some praeternatural cause instead of rational, simpler ones but there are instances that defy logic.

Some of the strange disappearances talked about online are not as strange as they appeared to be when we find out the exact circumstances like missing children running into vegetation for example before they disappeared. But from what I know, the Hildebrand boy disappeared very close to his family. I am not saying Gus` case is the same but I do know despite the online penchant for extraordinary reasons over normal ones, there are always a few cases that simply cannot be understood.

Forgetting the candlestick maker?
Don't think I'd ask the pastors/priests but that's just me.
The Yunta Race Club could also be the go

I've been surprised a couple of times thinking I'm out in the middle of nowhere, pulling over to get out and stretch a bit, to realise I'm not alone and spot someone approaching on foot.

One time I even thought I was seeing things that weren't there and overtired. But he was definitely there and he was only wearing a pair of undies. That was NSW.

I suprised a fellow bigfooty member the other week when he mentioned where he was and I told him there was a nudist camp nearby. You wouldn’t believe this nudist camp called Pilwarren is in such a remote place in the Murraylands. I’m sure he went past for a look once I told him about it.

Yeah but we were talking about cctv around the homestead itself, not out where the sheep are, and vandalism not sheep stealing. Sure CCTV cameras on all the entrance/exit roads would make perfect sense, if they had any. It seems they didn't, or that would have been one of the first items checked by police. Because of the size and topology of the property, such CCTV would probably need to be solar powered and probably would have local storage, not networked. So it would need manual retrieval and examination. Any reports of this being done? I haven't read anything.
