It's a 45 minute drive into Yunta and it's a very small town. It's possible no one knows him there. Peterborough is a slightly bigger town so they might go there for supplies. But if they are driving a ute for a couple of hours down dirt roads they probably wouldn't take the kid.

The remoteness of the area might explain the sporadic nature of the police searches. There's little accommodation to cater for large teams. They might be bussing people in from Adelaide each time, which is a 4 hour drive each way.
Fair enough. Should just give up then I suppose?

It seems unusual that we haven’t heard any local person mention having known or met little Gus. Like nice stories of what a sweet little boy he was, liked to help mum, dad or grandparents with the shopping or getting supplies for the farm etc. Either Yunta and surrounds are the most private country townsfolk in Australia or very few people, if any, ever came into contact with Gus.
Usually in small towns everybody knows everybody else's business intimately. Maybe there's a reason nobody is talking publicly?

They say they are 'open to other possibilities' but there is no mention of any investigative activities other than those related to 'looking for Gus on the property'. 🧐

Right, so it would also have been loaded then when the reporter was present. Most pump-actions take between 4 and 8 shells at a time. So unless it took multiple shots to dispatch the alleged snake, it was most likely loaded.
It is a lever action shotgun, as already correctly stated on here.

How big is the bloody snake that you need to shoot it in the first place?

Any relevance to the old photo in the background of the footage? Seems a strange photo to put up.

Yunta welcomes you to the dark ages of the 1930’s. Maybe they’re implying the town is still somewhat of a bizarre time warp. Where kids vanish without a trace and the townsfolk just get on with life as if nothing happened, nothing to see, get out or we will blow your head off.

That's the excuse for brandishing the shotgun.

Country people don't shoot snakes on the verandah.
We usually pour a kettle on them which instantly scolds them to death and doesn't create a mess.
Shotguns blow blood and flesh everywhere and leaves a horrible mess.

I'm disappointed, but not surprised about the police response.

At one point in the William Tyrrell investigation, one of the detectives said openly to the foster mother, "Nobody gives a *** about that little kid".

Sadly, this is true about Gus as well. Not enough people care enough. Police probably want to just close the case with a minimum of effort and move on to 'more important' stuff ... "He's lost, we can't find him - the property is too big, yada yada yada". There are no family connections coming forward on behalf of the family asking for help or answers.

The same would probably have happened with William if the foster parents were not wealthy and connected to a PR company who launched a public campaign and bombarded the media with pictures of William and emotional pleas etc. Also, as William was in the foster care system and had biological parents who were concerned about him, social workers and public advocates (e.g. Allanna Smith) came forward asking questions and seeking resolution. The NSW Government was also somewhat on the hook as William's legal guardian.

But Gus is from rural SA, not suburban Sydney. He has no advocates asking for answers.
Even the media have gone pretty cold on this after only a month.
Nobody gives a **** about that little kid.
This is the world we live in.
Old family "Grazier".

Is it any wonder, when the last media person to dare to report from the place Gus went missing came face to face with a pump action shotgun.

What do we expect media to do, start rocking up to Oak Park with Kevlar vests?

Live Reporting is done.
Investigating is done.

And we can thank SAPOL for that, and Josie who clearly has a hot temper and was doing something that was unsafe.

You can't expect reporters to continue under those conditions, it's done.

That's what happens when freedom of the press goes to absolute shit.

Imo
So Josie's shotgun effectively cleared the decks once and for all?

The above comment was allegedly said in the presence of dishonest and disgraced former detective Gary Jubelin, not the foster mother. Don’t be surprised if that story wasn’t twisted out of context to suit the agenda of people on the wrong side of law enforcement.

So SOME locals and neighbours of the father said however long ago that they hadn't been interviewed YET. Clearly the police have only done a couple of searches of the property and nothing else is being done. Makes you wonder how it can take years to solve a crime when it should only take a month to cover every possible scenario.

What neighours are you talking about the farm was 60km in size and Yunta has 60 people who live in town which is 40km away? the few farmers near by turned up and searched? be lucky to have 10 families between them and the town. more of a chance to have seen something driving by then people next door .

Takes months to get phone data from meta at times can we not downplay what police do they are limited in cases like this and others.

Yes, I would think so.

Yes, and that is a sad indictment on the South Australian police, who decided not to hold Josie to account for breaking the law. IMO

There was no snake, we know that, now there's no more reporting at Oak Park. IMO

And they (SAPOL) will acknowledge their own stupidity one day, but for today they have pulled up their big boy pants and decided to "search again."

If my child went missing, I would hope I wouldn't have an inept Police force investigating.

The WA Police found Cleo in 17 days. Why are SAPOL so slow?

If Jessica and Grandparent went to tend to the sheep, were they on bikes or in a vehicle?

Either way, the location they went to should be thoroughy searched. 10km is a long way away buy fairly normal for livestock, yet it certainly meets a scenario where someone could vanish without a trace.

I agree and further out if the family have placed themselves within 10 kms. Hard task though, the size of the land is massive.

The correct spelling is Bullyaninnie, they got the selling wrong in the article from 2009.

It's adjacent to Oak Park.

Map attached. Victim was a 75 year old woman.

Joy Betty was 75 in 2009.

She's still alive today, bless her soul.
I wonder who lives at the property now.

IMO it comes down to a risk vs reward strategy. Or best case vs worst case.

The best case scenario is that Gus is found alive and well. How would that happen? Experts have already said he couldn't have possibly survived this long alone. So, it could only happen if somebody took him from the property and hasn't hurt him (yet). That's the best possible outcome. So the questions police should be asking are:
  • Who might have possibly taken him?
  • Where would someone have taken him?

Of course, he may never be found. That's a worse scenario. Or he may be eventually found somewhere on the property - that's the scenario police seem to be focussing on.

But the absolute worst case scenario I can imagine is that Gus is eventually found to have been taken by somebody who may have hurt him and eventually killed him, but not immediately - meaning if police had found Gus earlier he might have survived.

Right now police should be trying to avoid, or at least eliminate the possibility of a worst-case scenario.

The WA Police found Cleo in 17 days. Why are SAPOL so slow?

It took a few days but the WA police eventually declared that Cleo Smith had been abducted. So then the investigation shifted to looking for evidence of who might have taken her and an appeal to the public for information. The breakthrough came when witnesses reported a car in the area on the night she disappeared.

So far, SAPOL have stated that there are no suspicious circumstances in Gus Lamont's disappearance. If they are to be believed they are just searching for him, not looking for evidence of a crime.
