Who said he didn't wander? How do we know what they meant by that, and if it's true? A 4YO kid would only take about 6 or 7 minutes to walk 500 metres. In the context of a remote rural property, where the child is familiar with the surroundings, I don't think it's unreasonable. He may have been accompanied by someone else when he went to the dam anyway - but maybe he was the only one who stepped in the mud? To leave a footprint, the ground would need to be wet, then dry out. It wasn't wet on the day he disappeared AFAIK. Therefore, the footprint was left previously.Half km is a long way for a little 4 year old boy to be away from the homestead at any time and they said he didn’t wander.
