Agree 100%. People couldn't really care less. If you saw someone pick up five bucks, at the most you'd think, 'lucky b*stard'. After a minute you would've forgotten already. Why are people so concerned what complete strangers think of them.

As for the question, wouldn't think twice about it. If you don't pick it up, someone else will.
If I dropped money on the street, I wouldn't expect to see it again.

Sorry, but finding a wallet is different, I have found a couple of wallets & always rang the people & gave them back, money as well.

Finding money is different, as there is no identification, last year I found $200 not far from the bank, I didn't hand that in.

Anything above 10 cents, I would definitely pick up, (and I'd equivocate over the 10 cents.)

As for notes, the best place to find them is in the pocket of an old jacket -"$50!!!, where'd I get $50 from??! Woohoo!" Same goes for green combustible psychoactive organic matter.

I don't know about taking out all the money from a wallet before returning it, I'd just give it all back - the money belongs to them.

If I saw someone drop a note I might give it back to them as well.

But a $5 all on its own? That's mine. Finders keepers.

If there was no chance I could be seen doing it, of course.

In high school, our principal dropped his wallet in the coridor in front of about three of us. We waited until he went into his office and closed the door, and swiped it.

After inspecting it behind the shelter sheds, we found $227 dollars inside. When you are 15 years old, no pr1ck is going to force you to hand that over.

I told the other two that for safe keeping, I should take it home and hide it until we worked out what we would do with it.

NorthBhoy wagged school for a week, catching a train into the city each day until I could spends no more. I told the others that it was found at home, and Mum had grounded me, even from school.

He drove a Lexus and had suspended me twice that year so not once did I feel guilty.

Happened to me a few times:

1. I spotted $50 on the floor, near the freezer section, in a Coles Supermarket. However, because it was Pension Day, I thought I would be nice and hand it in. When I handed it in they said they would ring me in 3 months if no one had claimed it, and I could have the $50. Three months later I received a phone call from Coles, and I was $40 richer.

2. Was walking outside a shopping centre and saw a $20 flying around in the air. I walked over and grabbed it before anyone else saw it. However, when I picked it up, I asked two ladies that were walking past if it was theirs, they said 'no', so I was $20 richer.

3. The third time happened when I was quite young. We go awy camping over Easter, and on one of the days there is this huge auction on the oval nearby. After the auction I was walking around and found $10. Nice!

I have to admit if no-one was around I wouldn't have even hesitated.

****

I don't really care about others seeing more the fact that i like to earn my own money and just don't need it so why bother, leave it for some other poor scabbo.

As for the exercise bit yeh that might do good to bend down for it, tone up the behind a bit ;)

The other day my mate and I were driving along and saw a 20 dollar note on a traffice island, so, we hooked a U turn and I jumped out and grabbed the money and we split it.

That's gotta **** but think of it this way i did my admin course a few years ago full time for 6 months and got paid squat for it. Parents had to fork out a lot for train ticket lunch money etc to go into the city every day. At the end of the course when time came to get a job it took about a year coz i had no experience so for you it won't be that bad!

Weeeeeell, if I just 'found' five dollars, I would probably keep it if no one saw me find it or if I wasn't in a cafe or depending on the amount - as in less than ten bucks or so. Otherwise my conscience wouldn't let me keep it.

However, the wallet thing reminded me. I have had the same wallet for over ten years and 'lost' it at least four times. Each time it has been returned with all cards in and when realizing I lost it and where approximately, didn't usually have much money in to worry about. The point is that I got a letter from the person who returned it, or the person sent it to an address on a card I had in the wallet or the family of 'a friend' gave me a call to let me know they had it.

I am not generally aware of karma but this has to be a good record for losing a wallet. In any case I don't think I lost great wads of money either if anything.

after doing it so many times...i've turned it into an art form...here's a few tips:

1. If you are worried that you'll get caught and branded a thief(?!) for picking up a five-er...drop something next to it and then pick it up...

2. If you're not worried (as myself and most people here) just pick up the money and scream at the top of your lungs "LOOK AT ME!!! I FOUND $5...I FOUND $5!!!...LOOK AT ME!!!!...."

9 times out of 10...you'll get ignored for being an idiot and you can walk off happy and $5 richer

now as for wallet snatching...remember this if it's full of dosh, take it all, if it's empty return it to the person and throw it in their face and beat them down with a large stick for being so poor :p

Oh but the stick I never saw, maybe I am REALLY horrible and poor. :D

Yep same here. With finding a wallet, I wouldn't take the money out and return everything else, my conscience would drive me insane if I did something like that. I left my purse once at Camberwell station, got all the way to the city and realised, went back and it had been handed in but all the money was gone. It was only about $5 or so, so I didn't care too much I just wanted all my cards back, which I got.) If I saw someone drop money I'd call out to them, I guess if they didn't hear me or ignored me I'd pick it up........but if it's there with no one around then yep it's all mine. ;)
