We don't know how accurate this is

(It is the closest you can get to a link of Robbo's story today)
But it is causing some concern on another thread that Stevo might be getting as much as $600k and it is amazing to think of the names that are not there while his is. Then again how could Bumbers sleep tonight wondering if they really are still paying Lloyd and Lucas as much as $1.4m

Look at all those names above Gary Ablett and you have the definition of someone playing for the love of the club while Anthony Rocca must surely promise to sponsor the club when he finally fesses up that he cant play anymore

igt what makes you think it was back-ended. Why in 2007, with a couple of improving young guns and big recruiting plans would we idecide to back-end 2008 to 2009 for Stevo?

The salary cap has cost us zero players in recent years. I know newspapers like to talk it up annually, but really... whatev.

Stevo's star has probably fallen a little - but more in his importance to Carlton (with Judd, Murphy, Gibbs probably overtaking him), than his actual performance. He'd probably be at a different slot in the pecking order if contracts were being handed out right now, but I've got no beef with him earning that this season.

If we re-signed him for $700k per year for a long contract... and ran the risk of losing some other, younger stars-to-be due to cap pressure, that I'd have a problem with. There's no way Swan, Icke and co make that mistake, though.

You are no doubt right about having the $ to spend as we had plenty of kids starting out and a requirement to pay to the cap. I don't think anyone would imagine him getting a lot more than some of the up and comers without a stellar year

Correct me if I am wrong but I beleive that a club must actually use up 93% minimum (could be another % in the 90's but I think it is 93%) of the overall cap. They have to give it to someone, it is a rule negotiated by the players assoc. I would say at the time the contracts were drawn up, who else did the club have? Fev and noone much else (grammer?). No other marquee players. This is pre Judd, Murph second year, Gibbs first year, pre Kruze etc etc. So if the club must pay someone, who else would get the money given that scenario?

Great thread Five :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

The money Stevens is on is a joke IMO, and while he is in the best 22 we have he is NOT worth that much in my Opinion :o

I think we are saying the same thing - my "I don't think anyone would imagine ..." was replying to Faz's comment about the future

Look we are back to agreeing again ;)

I really just don't get the footballing worlds fascination with what salaries our footballers are paid. I know I wouldn't want everyone to know how much I was earning. They are all put under so much scrutiny - so why do we need to worry about their monatary remuneration?

For mine - I just hope they aren't being payed so much that the core of the group - and by core I mean 20 of the 30 odd players that get used, are able to stick together for the better part of a decade! That is all...

Sorry Five, I realized that as soon as I posted but thought I would leave it be. I also agree that it is highly unlikely that given our list now that the sc wouldnt be spread over far more players now.

I agree that we now agree. :thumbsu::p

We are sticky beaks HBF :)

That said,
If you were a Geelong supporter would you be worried
If Gary jnr was not the son of Geelong legend and
If the Geelong team were not such a tight-knit group
about retaining him on half Juddy's money

Kind of an Iffy (and poorly worded) question ;)
