Well after today's dissapointing performance I think the Hawks have some serious issues that need to be resolved. Everyone is aware of the injuries that the Hawks have sustained, but the disappointing thing to date is that some of the more senior players have not stood up and shouldered the work load. They have too many passengers, and what appears to be a few down hill skiers.
Of the six wins the Hawks have had this year, 3 of those have been less less than convincing - Syd last week was line ball, as was the Carlton game and the Eagles gave us a scare also. The Melb game was good for a half, but they didnt put them away when they should have. North and Freo were wins the Hawks were expected to get at the start of the year.
If they are to turn it around, where is it going to come from? Sewell appears t be a real street fighter and competes for every ball. We all love Hodge but it's clear he's come back from injury early due to the other injuries the club has had to deal, and the type of team man he is. Bateman is playing injured, and we can go on and on. Unless these blokes get fit (or just get a chance to rest the body), it will be very tough to turn it around, or even carry other guys as players coming back from injury get match fitness.
By no means am I suggesting it's all over but I'm struggling to see whether some of the passengers have the stones to stand up and shoulder the burden and give the side a reasonable chance at making a tilt on Sept. Would love to see it happen, but not sure who is going to stand up?
Will it be Lewis? Will it be Birchall? Where is the improvement going to come from for the Hawks to challenge in September?

Yeah good positivity. But I'm not sure there is a tilt at september. This team doesn't have a good mindset right now. There seems to be some deeper issues we aren't aware of.Because today against a team undermamned etc for them to lose like this is just shows theres deeper issues.I think if we were to ask them all in the team whats going on maybe they don't even know. All I know is that there are alot of disapointed, angry supporters, fans who need answers and we're not getting them. Its like they don't care and its all we're going to get in 2009.All I can say is is that the signs are not good. And we'd better be prepared to see worse to come.We need to be realistic.:(

Injuries are not the sole reason why we are where we are and most of all the players and the coaching staff included need to do some sole searching over the break.
this should of been bookmarked as a win and what was with Mitchells speach after the swans game when he said thats how they wana play for the rest of the season like F#@#@#@#@ HELL ....

There is more issues over there than just injuries and we will prob never no the truth but this it total crap from a premiership team....

I'm not suggesting injuries are the only reason, my concern is that with the injuries we've had, we've had to play players who are not 100% to plug the gaps. When players come back, they will need some time to get match conditioned, and we will need some of the other players to step up.
From the supporters perspective, there looks like a underlying issue of expecting others to carry the load rather than each individual player putting their body on the line and committing to win each contest.

Some soul searching is required over the break

Where to for the Hawks?

We've got a pretty tough run in for mine.

Likely wins:
West Coast (Subi)
Richmond (MCG)

Line ball:
North (Tassie)
Pies (MCG)
Bombers (MCG)
Adelaide (MCG)

Likely lossess:
Geelong (MCG)
Saints (Tassie)
Bulldogs (Dome)
Port (AAMI)

That says 10 - 12 wins for mine, which is probably 6th - 10th spot.

a 12 win 10 loss finish, win 1 final and early end to the season.

we should be able to win 7 games if you look at our list, we can and should beat the pies, north, weagles, crows at mcg, bombers and tigers, and the way port are playing we should be able to beat them too even though it is at aaimi, and most likely to lose to geelong ,saint,s and bullies..

so that is why i think we definately should win a mininum of 5 games anything less would be very very dissapointing and it would be hard to end the footy year by winning less than 5 games out of 10...

no way, you got us winning 4 out of 10 games, that would be very disapointing regardless of how we are going, if we lose to north then we might as well stop following footy, and realy we should beat port even though its at aaimi they are worse as north.
crows wont be as hard to beat at the G as at aaimi so that can be even a win and i think by round 20 we will have our full list back so we should win all 3 last home and away games...

The boys have been hanging out for the midseason break.

They'll come out with a different mindset in the second half - nothing is surer.

Bateman, Brown, Hodge, Campbell, Lewis and Tuck are all guys that are playing injured. Hodge and Browny are particularly important for the team's intensity. Browny shouldn't have played this week, clearly rushed back to take on the twin towers.

Gilham and Ladson will add a level of professionalism that's been missing.

I'm as disappointed as the rest of you - but I'll be stunned if we don't storm home in the second half. We probably won't win the last 10 games of the season, but you won't see any more dogshit like that again.

If this is true and we come out in the 2nd half and play like we did in 08 then i will personaly meet up with you and buy you a beer if my wife alows me to and shake your hand..
but honestly i i think 5 games is a minimal of games that we can win anything less would be disgracefull....

There seemed to be a few threads about our best 22 and 25 players if all were fit. Well, when we have 22-25 of our best players out there, like the end of last season, that will dictate where to from here. Let's get em on the park.

I'm not sure of the numbers, but there are not a whole lot of players to have played every game this year. The team is completely fragmented. We do not have our best playing their best positions.

We miss Young on the wing and Ladson’s kicking. Campbell has to play FB so we suck in the ruck. We are still down another defender so we expect Murphy to stand up. We have lost arguably our most exciting player and game breaker in Cyril and players like Hodge and Bateman seem to always have some type of injury.

6 debutants this season and injured depth players like Boyle, Bailey and Thorp.

We have played 34 off our list compared to the Saints 26. A team that stays together win's together.
