Swans have been a fast starting team this year, they almost rely on that good start to win games because they are a terrible 4th qtr team. Many teams that have been 20-40pts down against them have come back and won or almost won, including us a few weeks ago. Even without us having a break we can match them in the 4th qtr.

Not having a break could be ok, we've had 2 very tough games and certainly will be match hardened for the 1st qtr, Sydney won't, week off and the Crows game wasn't as tough as other finals. We could certainly give them a shock. We need to get a jump on them, put them on the back foot and let their doubt of losing to us all the time kick in.

Remember last years prelim ?
It took to the dying seconds for the Pies to beat The Hawks, so the weeks rest almost cost us a GF appearance.
Fingers crossed for a good close game and a Pies win

Actually if you look at it closely you could say that the weeks rest cost us a flag - in that we had to spend so many tickets to get past the Toasties.

It's tuff for us non super athletes and sports scientists to understand completely - maybe its all mental in the end - buy I am concerned about a 6 day break - but we have to hope this is another " galvanising" week and the siege mentality is as strong as ever at pie land !!!

This year, I think we're the exception to the rule.

It plainly obvious to anyone with functioning eyes that we have been well below our best all year.

This side NEEDS to keep playing games to tweak and find form. I think the break could have actually hurt us from a form perspective. I know it helps the injured players, but in terms of momentum and building form, I think the break would have been the worst thing for us.

You keep hearing the players and coaches saying they actually thought they did a lot of good things against Hawthorn and Essendon, and they think they're almost where they need to be. We may not have had that chance to build up had we scraped over the line against Hawthorn.

Could have come into the Prelim flat as a tack and bundled out. It's not like 2010 where we already had the form, and needed the rest to give the niggles a chance to be ironed out. Our form has been terrible and we need games to find it.

I agree that we didn't need a weeks rest. We needed to build momentum.

However, the Swans will undoubtedly benefit from the rest and have close to a full list to pick from. They will be fresh and have had an extra week to prepare for the game.

I think it works both ways...but I think SYdney definitely has the benefit of freshness. But I'm glad we are backing up quickly from the West Coast game because we now have confidence and I want to get stuck into the Swans whilst the place is buzzing.

Win, lose or draw, I'll be putting 20 bucks on us for the flag next year because I think we'll have a super pre-season and Luke Ball will be the missing link.

Depends on how Sydney tackled it.

HEard Mooney say that it took Geelong a couple of shots to realise they should have trained hard in the SECOND week instead of the first. Reckons you come out flat if you rest up in the second week.

Hopefully Sydney have done that.

Either way, I'd be surprised if we lost this game. Not because we're far superior to Sydney, but because for some reason, no matter what the circumstance, we just don't know how to lose to them.

I fear this has now destined us to lose.
Take it back, take it back..... :P

Me too.... But it's got to end one day.
May as well worry about an extinction event asteroid strike Wicksy - if it comes, it comes.

Until then live in the present and deal with the known facts.

We have the wood on them.

Interstate trips hold no fear for us.

We have the better ins since our last meeting with them - which we also won.

6 days are enough for a recovery.

Only thing against this all is they have a 14 day break - which can have unchartable effects.

It's very doable m8 but certainly no sure thing.

My take is simple. It all comes down to the attitude of the players and nothing we say or do will matter a damn. If you look at the issues you can use pretty much all of them as a positive or a negative.

14 day break Vs 6 day break.
Swans fans will be saying they will have less fatigue and will have had better time to recover and prepare.
Pies fans will be saying that our momentum and confidence will be up and we will be battle hardened.

JMac.
Swans fans will be saying that the emotional rollercoaster will make it hard for Pies players to get up.
Pies fans could say that it will provide inspiration and a cause to fight for.

History.
Swans fans will say they're due to break the hoodoo as they did against the Crows.
Pies fans will say that the hoodoo will play on their minds.

I could go on but the simple fact is that it will probably all come down to how the players manage those issues in their own minds. The team which manages them best will have the greater advantage.

Me too.... But it's got to end one day.

Nup. Don't buy that.

It's not written in the stars that this run HAS to end sometime soon. It could end tomorrow, it could end 30 years from now.

I just can't see it ending now.

With each game that passes, the pressure mounts on Sydney to win the next one. Now, take that existing pressure and apply that to a Preliminary final. It's multiplied by 20. When these streaks happen, it's rare they end in a final. Syndey at home, at full strength, with a weeks rest, trying to not only end a 7 ear/11 game streak, but also need to make the Grand Final.

Pressure is all on them. This Collingwood side has historically played well with no pressure, with back against the wall. It's why I'd probably prefer we make the GF with Hawthron as opposed to Adelaide the more I think about it.

When Sydney eventually beats us, it's more likely to happen in a meaningless H&A game when Sydney isn't a dominant side and we are. We let our guard down for a week, and bam, they roll us.

God, I hope you're right Shpeshal Ed. Your talking way to rationally about our chances...it's freaking me out!

I've always spoken rationally. But when that rationale is of a negative nature, people don't like to hear it.

I'm aware I'm naturally more of a pessimist, but I'd actually love for at least one person on this board to come to the football with me to see I'm not that bad, and actually pretty positive irl. By the time I get on here though, I've had the cool down time, and have more time ot think about thing.

So being more of a pessimist, I'm going to see the negative angle more often than not. But I still look for omens and other irrationals like any other one eyed Pie.
