Also would've given us the cap room to chase a guy like Wines. I don't hold much hope for him fully recovering from an injury that's been debilitating him for the past two years and also forced his brother into and early retirement. Too many big egos at the club to look past the Daniher name and see what opportunities the move could've created.

We said no to a trade because our medicos think they can get him right, if they didn't think they could he'd be gone IMO, also the Swans thought/think they can fix him as well, so there is still hope.

Whether we can fix him or not is yet to be known.

It's been close to two years now since the injury first surfaced and there's still no clarity on when he will return to normal training let alone playing next. Any injury that's being 'played by ear' is worrying as it suggests no one really has a clue what's going on.

We don't know whats going on, I'm sure internally they're across it.

I reckon Wines is in the pipeline. I'm actively reckoning this.

Yep so on it they can not produce a time frame.
Right now every time he increases his running load he pulls up sore.

That deal is looking much better right now but at the time, holding firm was the right thing to do I think. Joe is the closest thing to a marquee player that we have had in a decade.

Dodoro's request for established players was fair. With the list we currently have, if we don't have the same injuries as 2019, the belief is there that we have the ability to challenge. People forget, in 2018 we smashed the 2018 premiers on their own deck. Last year we beat the runner-up. In 2020, if Joe's fitness issue is solved, who knows? But it has taken this long to get the talent on the list, I'm happy we're taking the chance. Besides, when Sydney were asked for established players as compensation, they baulked.

The integrity of our list quality needed to remain uncompromised for 2020, or no deal.

Dodoro's request for established players is never fair. How do you convince a happy and REQUIRED player to leave ? EFC was dancing with the fairies when it came to JD's trade request.

No good owning a Ferrari that has a piston sticking out the side of the block.
At the time they where in the same position as now. They knew he was having trouble increasing his work load and he was going to Ireland to see a new specialist with the view of starting another gradual build up under a different training plan.
Yes he is bloody good and we have not really seen his absolute best but he has produced 1 high class season and 1 good season in 7 years and it looks like his 8th year is also going to have some issues if he can even get on the park in 2020.

The Swans made a good offer for Daniher.

They need to build their midfield (and they actually threw some meaningful picks at this at the draft).

It would have been irresponsible management to go harder than they did given they have Blakey, Mccartin, Franklin and Reid already - plus he is injured and IF he comes good he is likely to wind up there anyway.

Given how well they manage their s**t its not hard to see why a player would want to go there tbh.

It was fair. Daniher, when fit, will be a superstar. He takes a game and turns it. No player on Sydney's list, except Buddy or maybe JPK has done that. Being an established player doesn't make you superstar quality. Dodoro was asking for players with that potential - they may or may not become that good. You forget, Sydney made overtures to Daniher. We made the right decision.

In answer to your rhetorical question, I'm going to say, "They've got this room that has a squishy floor", and "You know, Jake Stringer plays for them, and Anthony McDonald Tipungwuti."

I agree, I'm just satisfied that we didn't believe it was good enough.

I'm okay with trying out the mechanic from Ireland, simply because it just might be that mechanic who gets another season out of the Ferrari, and with the list we have (which is the best we've had in yonkeys) it just might be that that's a winning season. I'm a believer.

So you think they don't know what they're doing or doing nothing and he's 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt finished?

You know as much as me, nothing.

Let's just wait and see.

I agree that it’s very plausible that the club could both
- have no idea on actual time frame to recovery
- be managing Joe as well as possible

People on here just don’t seem to understand OP. You can treat and manage it to perfect best practice standards - and still not get the outcome. Or wait a long time for it.

Personally I fear the worst for his career and I can’t see 2020 happening at all. But that’s just a gut feeling, based on nothing and probably heavily influenced by the low expectations bred into bombers supporters over the last 18 years. Fingers crossed he comes good.

Not having a go at you but during trade week you were saying it was right to hold firm like we did. What’s changed your thinking since other than hindsight? Again I respect you and your thoughts but just wondering what’s caused the about face?

Probably the fact he still can't run. I'm starting to think we should have traded him too.

Do any of us know what his current training load is? I mean he's at the club all day on most days, he's doing things inside the hanger, maybe this new fitness guru is holding him back because he's got a clear idea on how to go about this injury.

He was doing plenty of running this time last year and it didn't work out, all we can do is hope the club have a set plan and are following it.

Just how many games has joe took and turned?

It is getting a bit worrying. You'd think the club would be beating its chest about any progress he makes given what happened in trade period.
