With the Hawks bombing out we now have a 9 horse race for a finals spot.

Surely with our run home it will be a Blue September.

LOL @ Hawthorn ...

Still that Fev miss earlier this year against the Dawks hurt, we probably would have consolidated our final 8 spot by now ..

However on the flip side, Brizzy could still crumble and miss the 8 (they have geelong next week I think) so that could open up another spot in the top 8 ..

But we can't rely on other teams incompetence to get us into the finals, our destiny lies in our own hands

Don't be surprised if the Bombers also fall apart.

You know it's stupid, but after today (and esp tonight's) results, I've got a bit of a spring in my step again, and finals are certainly back on the agenda, and even if we lose tommorow (god I hope not) by the default of the mediocre sides in the league, I thnk we'll be playing in september (god willing)

But can anyone tell me this ...

How the hell can we smash the Bulldogs and Collingwood, and push St.Kilda to 9 points, and yet get smashed by Essenscum ???

The gap between our best and worst is astronomical (We're a bit like Port adelaide in that respect) but I am convinced if we can close the gap, and start playing more consistent 4 quarters of footy each week, we should make the finals with a game or two to spare ...

This is the run home for a few teams that are fighting out the final two spots in the 8. For now, i'll assume that Brisbane make it.

Carlton:

Rd. 14 v Fremantle (Subi)
Rd. 15 v Richmond (MCG)
Rd. 16 v Sydney (Etihad)
Rd. 17 v Collingwood (MCG)
Rd. 18 v North Melb. (Etihad)
Rd. 19 v Geelong (MCG)
Rd. 20 v Port (AAMI)
Rd. 21 v Melbourne (Etihad)
Rd. 22 v Adelaide (Etihad)

Essendon

Rd. 15 v Sydney (SCG)
Rd. 16 v Bulldogs (Etihad)
Rd. 17 v Richmond (MCG)
Rd. 18 v West Coast (Subi)
Rd. 19 v Brisbane (MCG)
Rd. 20 v St.Kilda (Etihad)
Rd. 21 v Fremantle (Subi)
Rd. 22 v Hawthorn (MCG)

Port

Rd. 15 v Melbourne (MCG)
Rd. 16 v West Coast (AAMI)
Rd. 17 v Adelaide (AAMI)
Rd. 18 v Hawthorn (AAMI)
Rd. 19 v Fremantle (Subi)
Rd. 20 v Carlton (AAMI)
Rd. 21 v Brisbane (Gabba)
Rd. 22 v North Melb. (AAMI)

Hawthorn

Rd. 14 v Bulldogs (Etihad)
Rd. 15 v North Melb (Laun)
Rd. 16 v Collingwood (MCG)
Rd. 17 v Geelong (MCG)
Rd. 18 v Port (AAMI)
Rd. 19 v St.Kilda (Laun)
Rd. 20 v Adelaide (MCG)
Rd. 21 v Richmond (MCG)
Rd. 22 v Essendon (MCG)

Gee, Port have a good run home. Still, I think it will come down to the wire. Essendon have a habit of winning games they're not expected to and you can never say with certainty that we'll win any game. Hawthorn are out of the running, playing like shit and probably have the toughest draw of them all.

I was thinking the same thing JB - Port I think will be playing finals based on their run home.

As has already been said we can't rely on other teams, we need to start winning games.

As amazing as it sounds, you'd have to think that Hawthorn are out of contention for 2009. Seventh & Eighth spots will come down to Essendon, Carlton & Port - although Brisbane do play Geelong next week at the Gabba, and then Fremantle at Subi.

My prediction

Carlton:

Rd. 14 v Fremantle (Subi) WIN (could go either way)
Rd. 15 v Richmond (MCG) WIN
Rd. 16 v Sydney (Etihad) LOSS
Rd. 17 v Collingwood (MCG) LOSS
Rd. 18 v North Melb. (Etihad) WIN (could go either way)
Rd. 19 v Geelong (MCG) LOSS
Rd. 20 v Port (AAMI) WIN (could go either way)
Rd. 21 v Melbourne (Etihad) WIN
Rd. 22 v Adelaide (Etihad) LOSS

Lose tomorrow and we can just about kiss season 09 away officially, as everyone has written off Hawthorn and we will be in the same boat as them.

Drop any one of the WIN games and that puts us on 10 wins. Doubt we will make it with that. Don't drop any of the WIN games and we should be okay. With 11 wins we will scrape in for 7th or 8th spot.

We have a good chance of winning every one of those except Geelong if we bring our A game. But we all know we struggle to do that consistently.

I barely like our chances of finals anymore.

8 - 6 right now, hey...not too bad! But Geelong next week, you can 99% sure pencil it in for a loss. Then, at 8 - 7, we have a must-win game against Freo at Subi...who knows, Brisbane season following similiar pattern to last year.

Carlton:

Rd. 14 v Fremantle (Subi) WIN (cant see all the fuss)
Rd. 15 v Richmond (MCG) WIN
Rd. 16 v Sydney (Etihad) (could go either way) only coz we struggle to win 3 on the trott
Rd. 17 v Collingwood (MCG) LOSS
Rd. 18 v North Melb. (Etihad) WIN
Rd. 19 v Geelong (MCG) LOSS
Rd. 20 v Port (AAMI) WIN
Rd. 21 v Melbourne (Etihad) WIN
Rd. 22 v Adelaide (Etihad) Who cares :D

Now 6/7 ----> 5 definite wins + 2 Losses = 11/9 (Sydney and Adelaide not considered.)

We cant miss the finals from here :thumbsu:

I am sure we will play finals...

Wins against Freo, Richmond, Melbourne should be no contests.....

Everyone knows Sydney and Adelaide seem to damage us no matter what...if we can win one fo these games... it would be very nice.

Collingwood.....hmmmm....as good as they may have been playing of late when we play them anything can happen. Regardless of where we both clubs are on the ladder it can go anyway..... I think we have more of a chance in this game than people give us credit for. It's a derby, so the boys should rise to the occasion. (last week being the exception)

With the possibility of Warnock and Tex as inclusions, I reckon all those games are winnable say bar Geelong, as long as Dr. Jekyl Carlton stays away and Mr Hyde Carlton comes to play.

I'd throw North into that group too.

I did the ladder predictor over at allthestats.com, gave us losses V Collingwood, Geelong, Port Adelaide & Adelaide

had us sitting 11-10 finishing in 8th. I was also generous to Essendon and teams around us to give a real indication of where we could be sitting come round 22.
