Ths nonsense about the umpiring is tiresome. If you are good enough they are inconsequential. It is a tough 360 degrees game that is difficult to umpire and at the top level everything happens at high speed. Having a go at umpiring is a cop out.
I think Kevin Sheedy once said something along the lines of being expected to field their best 22 every week, and when the don't play to the standard they are dropped, but umpires dont (get dropped for a poor standard).
Probably the only thing I'd agree on coming from him.

The Standard has dropped, they have 4 on the field, and cameras, yet the holding the ball and incorrect disposal has simply gone out the window. Way too many ball ups and gutless calls brought on by high intensity last quarters. Umps should be dropped for howlers. At least Razor Ray had the courage to stand by his calls, right or wrong.

Just watching the highlights, and saw something I didn't realise about Lord's goal in the last quarter.

Lord started the play on half back, where, under pressure, he drilled an inside kick to Curnow. He then gut runs at high speed from D50 to F50, turns and makes a lead so that Harry can hit him up with a pass. THEN, still has the composure to go back and hit the long range shot.

A huge play from a young fella when the game hung in the balance.
That was by far the best game I’ve seen him play, he drilled that pass through the centre of the ground to start that whole play off, then he took off running, burnt off his opponent found space and went back and absolutely nailed that set shot with authority
I didn’t know he had those kinda weapons in his game, but my lord what a time to step up and show us.

Just watching the replay … is it just me or does Nick Haynes look like one of the thunderbirds ?

I found it a little interesting that when H had the ball around centre and was waiting for a target inside f50….

ollie presented in plenty of space and waving his arms about but H didn’t appear interested in kicking it to him…

instead H waited a bit longer and passed it to lord who turned up somewhere around near Ollie some time later…🤔
H was probably looking for a higher percentage option than a kick from 50m from a player that would be challenged by it. Didn't eventuate so eventually kicked to CL.

In watching the replay again it was interesting to see Binns continually keeps himself in a position to receive even after he had disposed of the ball. The ball 9 contested possessions from a wingman shows to me that he goes and gets it when he needs to. Made a couple of mistakes in the first quarter but it was something to build on. In comparison OH hasn't had more possessions while playing on the wing,

Yeah Binns is used to being 'the man' in the 2s. I think part of his improvement will actually come from teammates trusting and using him more. Look at how the players trust and look for Acres. Especially E Hollands loves to pass to Acres.

Hope Binns gets a decent string of games as a wing and gets to show his stuff. I don't know if he's the long term answer but he's shown glimpses to suggest he can make it.
