I would have preferred the marathon, but this was okay anyway.

Seems like as soon as I got sick of whatever game they were showing, they switched to something else. Is it me though, or was '84 the shortest? :)

Who cares Stealth, all I remember was actually being there & seeing our guys win, gee I cried for 2 days with happiness.

Seen it a million times, as I watch it before every Hawthorn vs. Essendon match. Just makes me angrier and my hatred for you scumbags grows.

The Hitman

I have the video of that game - I've seen it millions of times but I'll never get sick of it. First Essendon flag in my lifetime, so it'll always have a warm place in my memory:D :D
Woooah Billy, Bustling Billy, the wild man from the west.:D :D :D

Leon Baker- superstar, should've won the Norm Smith that day.

Agree, most under-rated player I think I could name. Was ecstatic when he went on his round the world jaunt with his missus and just walked away from footy (and Essendon). Took your lot five years to get over! (hell I gotta get something out of it)! ;)

Who ever under-rated Leon Baker? ;)

He was fantastic. I think he played in 3 back-to-back Premiership teams in a row. Fair effort.

(apologies for the SeinDude-like amount of smilies but Baker deserves them.)

Most everyone I reckon. :p Ask about his name now and see what form of response you would get from most non-Dons fans.

Me, I have him up there in Williams class, awesome footballer. But im sick of talking about the worst day of footy I can recall so :p that he walked on ya's anyway! ;)

Please - carry on talking about Leon Baker! ;)

I know what you mean, but i think that most people who actually know a thing or two about footy would still rate Baker pretty highly. For a guy who only played 3 seasons, he's still spoken about quite a lot.

Because he was so --->

The 'family' NEVER underrated him Gren. Sensational footballer, one of the best i've seen at Essendon, and was , IMO the main reason we were as close as we were at 3/4 time in '84.

Your enjoying this arent you! :p

Btw first saw Baker I think 82 or 83 GF for Swannies in W.A. Wanted him for the Hawks then.. :( How old was he when he left, only 26? 27? To think what he could have done had he stayed.. :p its petty and spiteful... but its all I got ;)

Leon the Legend.....at least as far as this pinnacle of MOR crap yank music is concerned.

I reckon Leon is probably the unluckiest non Norm Smith winner yet ... 4-goals, 2 in the first 10 minutes of last to put 'em in front, 28 touches, won centre in first half despite Bombers getting blitzed on the scoreboard, then won from half-forward in second half.

Amazing player, great vision and skills, but also harder than people thought. Played 86 games 1984-88, stress fractures to feet stuffed up his last couple. Coached Maffra, went back to WA, Port Douglas and not sure where right at moment.

Underrated, yes, probably only because he avoided publicity like the plague ... nicked off to Nepal with wife "Spider" couple of hours after the '84 win.

Anyway, my two martini's worth ... back to the ... sniff ... straw, sorry, mean studio.

Love
Rupert

1984 GF

I was a Bombers Barracker in those days!!!!

Leon Baker was a fantastic player!!!!

I remember the Match winning move of Paul Weston to CHF at 3 Quarter Time, another bloke who should have spent longer at the Top Level than he did!!!!!

Being from SA, that same weekend my local team Norwood were under dogs as were the Bombers, they both duly saluted, the best w/end of my life!!!!!!!!!

The history making Grand Final.. now that wasn't dull at all!

I loved it when Tim Evans and Craig Balme went the biff before the ball was even bounced. Australians all let us rejoin indeed..
