I was too young to see him play (unfortunately)

I just watched the couple of clips of him on Open Mike, I have to say what an incredible man.

Not sure he gets the recognition he deserves. AFL legend, 390 total games played across 3 leagues

Watch the '77 prelim DC and watch the old bloke carve up Leigh Matthews in his prime.
Sight to behold that day.

That was the second ever final that I attended as a youngster. It was one of the all time great individual performances.

Listening to him talk about the incident with the tractor:eek:

No wonder he was such a gun. Ice in his viens

Never saw him play live but was my favorite player as a kid, have read many transcripts over the years about his training techniques in his backyard (targets set up all over place) and trying to simulate game situations. Was he before his time? Not sure, what he definitely was, was a man that left nothing to chance with his fitness and skills and possibly worked harder than anyone else of his generation. Something that some of our current crop could learn a thing or two about.

Today's playing group needs to extract his DNA .......the man just hates losing. Still punishes his grand children on the table tennis table and reminds them that they can't beat him.

Incredible insight to the story regarding the tractor accident.........how tough was he ? mentally ? Like I said ......the club needs to get him at the club for a little chat every now and then.

Would be handy if some of our current crop had the self belief, work ethic and killer instinct that Cabes did.

His interview on 360 was fascinating.

That's it exactly. Judging from his interviews it was his belief that made him great. Ok Matthews, KB, come at me. I will beat you.

You're just born with that shit

Telling the bloke who came to save him. "Ok you can't pass out. I need you to keep me alive. Call the police and call an ambulance. Tell my wife to meet me at the hospital, that's where I'll be."

Seriously bloody tough. Man should've been a General.

If I get a chance might watch the lot

I did.

Stuff I was reminded of....

Dench was a freak, Alves was silk, Henshaw was underrated, Byrne was a talented unit, and Xavier Tanner was a smooth-moving gun. That pickup and goal on the run from 50+ was just ridiculous.

And last but not least...that Barry Cable was the best handballer that the NMFC, and possibly the game, has ever seen.

In conclusion, North by 67 points.
