we've done exceptionally well in adding to our list through the Nov and PSD, leaving us in a much better postion going forward depth wise than when we entered 2007.

With added ruck strength, and KPP we wont be exposed should we be struck by injuries.

This is the key to list management, combine this with the natural improvement of our young midfielders & boom recruits and it augers well for a more prosperous 2008:thumbsu:

agreed. This will be looked back on as the draft/trade period that turned our footy club around.

McMahon
Morton
Cotchin
Rance
Putt
Gourdis
Collard

All of these guys have potential to play plenty of footy in 08.

Add to these Rewioldt, Connors, Collins and Edwards from the 06 draft and we have just injected 11 future class players.

Great stuff Tigers.

Was a very good draft for us...lots more depth there, loads of upside potential and we've still managed to add quite a bit of immediate improvement with the likes of McMahon and Morton.

Very happy all up...though there is a couple of things I would have done differently, I don't have any problems with the way we've gone. Covered heaps of bases in just one draft. Excellent effort.

Is it just me or is this kid the Richmond version of Dale Thomas???

I think better as he has a bigger motor.
In saying that both will be guns for years to come, I just think Thomas will play a Didak type role and Edwards will be an onballer.
How many kids built like him have had a debut season like his? he is special.

We added 4 KPPs, 2 players capable of playing Ruck and every single non-tall player has silky skills :thumbsu:

Silvester, Gourdis, Rance = 3 BIG bodied KPPS, plus Putt is seen as a KPP by GM and FJ.

Cotchin, Morton, Pool Boy + Collard are all fantastic kicks.

Putt and ACL both help our ruck stocks and are both young enough to be here in 10 years time (ACL less likely).

We recruited for needs and were genuinely lucky enough to get best available too.

Edwards is built like a 15yo and I can't wait to see what another 10-15kg's of strength and power add to his game. To go out at 71kg and play like that in your first season...the kid has a lot going for him.

Wallace loves him. Genuinely loves the way the kid goes about it.
If he and Connors can step up and play 15-20 games each this season, it will be a bonus. There's so much improvement in these two, it's almost unfathomable.

I have a feeling that clubs may be looking at Daniel Connors in 09 and wonder how the hell he fell to pick 51.
He has that x factor.

he went at 58 didn't he? Not that it matters.

All well and good having a balanced list but it should be remembered that most of them are still 1-3 years away from being regular players. There are still going to be the games where we get made to look like a little league side and there will be others where we look like world beaters. Regardless though what happens in 08 I am so looking forward to seeing the development of this list and see if we have finally turned the corner and will once again be a team that is feared.

My only hope is that we finish above 12th so I don't lose the bets I have going on Bay 13.

I truly admire your realism.

yeah in a weak draft year.well done

We took 4 kids, all highly rated, recycled 3 players, all on the rookie list and promoted 1 guy from the VFL. Strikes me as a good way to handle a weak draft.

People have been critical of the Miller/Wallace recruiting record, but sometimes with jigsaws you can't see the picture until the last few pieces are put in place. Many were saying we should have been taking talls or this or that from the start, but they took over a train wreck and have taken a fairly methodical approach to building a list almost from scratch, which is no easy task.

The way we have used the rookie list this year is also very interesting. Instead of using it to develop kids like most other clubs, we have plenty of those developing kids already on our main list. So we've gone for 4 different player types who can pretty much step straight in to the senior side to fill a gap if required, but still have enough youth on their side to have some possibility of improvement. Not sure if it will pay off longer term, but the young profile of our main list has sort of pushed us down that path.

I noticed the same crum, we've used the rookie system as our insurance policy....Lose a ruckman and Cartledge comes in...Lose a defender and sylvestor comes in..a small man Collard/Howatt....time will tell however it looks to me we are far less vulnerable to unforeseen shocks that are par for the course in football that have derailed our fortunes over the years...

They said the same thing about the 2005 draft ;)

The reality is that it was probably a normal draft just that last year had 7 guys who could have gone no.1 and the top 30 or 40 would have been top 10 players most other years.

Absolutely tug, the sooner they're able to become permanent fixtures in midfield rotations, we'll be a better side. Realistically, it will be '09/10 before that happens.
