I have been watching the Hawks tonight and they have alot of elite kicks coming out of their back half...eg Hodge, Mitchell but in particular Suckling...

Id love to have a go at getting this guy...i know we have a few his size in the back half but could fit him on a wing through the middle and at either half forward/back flank...id nearly go as far as to offer our first round pick thats how good he would be at the Demons.

Get rid of Bartram & Bate make room for this guy...

Anyway just a thought...:thumbsu:

Bate + First Round Pick = Suckling

Hawthorn still prbl wouldn't take it!

Playing really well, they'd value him too much now. Gotta hunt one in the draft.

Not lefties but Tapscott and Strauss have the potential to be laser-like coming out of defense. Still question marks over Strauss as a long-term player but IMO recent signs have been encouraging.

Love Suckling though. Nothing better than watching the Bombers and those smug pricks in the coaches box get flogged too. :thumbsu:

have some mates losing it on facebook about the game, it's fantastic. I'm sure it's the umpires fault as well:rolleyes:

After putting three patient years into Suckling for sweet FA im sure the Hawks would trade him to us now that he is tearing the comp apart.

Stupid thread is stupid.
You'd be lucky to have found a Hawthorn fan who wanted to keep Suckling at the end of last year, yet alone one who believed he could bring his laser like kicking to AFL games week in week out.

Another great example that footy clubs often know much more than even the most observant supporters.

I've got absolutely no problem with Juice been kept as a rookie the last two years. How well are Lawrence, Johnston, MacNamara or Campbell going in the VFL? I don't think we needed another rookie pick last year.

Decisions like giving Bate a 2 year deal are much worse.

If we'd gotten rid of Juice we could have had Barlow, amongst the other gems in the 2010/11 rookie drafts.

And so could every club Gazza: But guess what mate, no one jumped but Freo. He was taken in the PSD anyway, we took JMac

Off the top of my head we passed on Barlow 5 times in that national draft, not to mention all the drafts before that years. With young players patience generally is the right option and I believe pays off more often than not.

It's the middle aged list cloggers and older players who you are too scared to retire who get kept too long.

HFF if I remember correctly Freo took McPhee in that PSD, while we took JMac.

MB fair enough. But we had the number 1 pick in the rookie that wasn't a GC selection, and Barlow was also an early non-GC selection, amongst some other great talent (Daw, Playfair, Silvagni, Podsiadly). We redrafted Meesen too :S

I assume guys like Bate are kept around because of their experience, and so as to bounce out the salary and at least pay players that are close to being worth their actual salary, rather than over-paying young kids.
