Take that, Robert Walls!

After some caffine and brainstorming today, I got this shirt made at Broadway. It's my response to the whole Walls saga. Did not wish to give him the satisfaction of naming him on my shirt, yet found a way to convey all my sentiments: who says I want to see pretty football, anyway?

Sure, it's only a t-shirt. A small victory for me and my beloved club, but one nonetheless.

So take that, Robert Walls! Maybe I like ugly football!

Maybe you do and good on you for that.

But perhaps those in control of the game, those trying to sell television rights and attract sponsors are less enamoured with ugly football.

Robert Walls is ugly

The swans duty is to play entertaining footy for THEIR fans, not collingwood's, richmonds etc.... they play to win, they win more than they lose... Winning does not bore me in the slightest, it excites me... so all the critics can *********.....

It's a joke. You know, humour, ha,ha. Oh, that's right, you're a Collingwood supporter and you're either too stupid to appreciate the joke or too sad to appreciate humour.

Thanks Cruiser and maybe like all other Sydney supporters you are new to the game, clap for behinds, yell "Ball" whenever someone is tackled and the the Western Bulldogs used to be called Canterbury. Get an understanding of the game.

And how does that relate to Robert Walls and the t-shirt? Let's see if we get a reply there.

Wow, don't you take yourself seriously? Good thing no-one else takes you or your team as other that a joke (and good to make fun of with one point wins). Then, as your location comes from the theme for "Greatest American Hero", maybe you are too subtle for us. Like the Pies' great traditions (that mainly appears to consist of losing Grand Finals). But you are right - I clapped lots of Collingwood behinds last weekend (you kicked more inaccurately than us and that's another achievement) so maybe numerically-deficient Sydneysiders don't understand the difference between one and six points. But I guess this week you've come to terms with a plus or minus sign in front of the one point?

That's a riot that more than one football team is called the Bulldogs. Next you'll tell us there's a pretty little lake resort in Canada called Collingwood.

By the way, we hear this a lot from Victorian hicks about ignorant Sydney crowds calling "ball". In the past three years I've never heard it in Sydney but have heard it lots at games in Melbourne. And be fair: playing the Pies it's hard to tell if it's holding the ball or another unaccountable Collingwood player taking a little nap.

Carlton, Collingwood and essendon fans (in that order) are BY FAR the worst and most ignorant with regards to the "Ball" rule. A lot of Carlton supporters genuinely believe that a tackle by a Carlton player causing an incorrect disposal is a free kick. "Dropping the ball, ump, Dropping the ball," they yell. It's hilarious. I know it's hard but dropping the ball (incorrectly disposing of the ball...also known as throwing) is DIFFERENT from holding the ball (not disposing after having had prior opportunity, or not making a realistic attempt to dispose of the ball when tackled without prior opportunity).

One day all those mentally deficient fans who support teams that start with C will finally understand. NOT.

Sydney crowds do NOT yell "BALL" for every tackle, you ********-arse. :)

We are allowed to have a sense of humour, on top of that I am sure Tuesday will look rather fetching in her new shirt. Plus most of us actually understand the game to go with that!

Cheers and Beers, Stella. :)

It was just a statement, not a commentary on the state of the game in Sydney. Not rocket science, I do realise, but just something I thought fellow Sydney siders (or perhaps those RWO refugees?) would like.
I don't necessarily like ugly football, but who's to know that? It's better than just sitting on my hands, and having a whinge ;)

I agree...in fact, it's a pretty effective statement. I don't like ugly football either, but I like your message because it says loud and clear, hey, as long as we're still winning I don't care how we play! :p

Even though Swans games aren't overflowing with goals as we'd like them to be (and believe me I'd love us to kick 20+ goals every week), and kicking 11 goals to 10 last week might not be the "prettiest" spectacle, but they are not the ugly defensive flood-riddled bore-fest than some people make them out to be. That's not to say the St. Kilda game wasn't a horrible spectacle - of course it was and much worse, but I mean, who can say last week's win over Collingwood was boring? I was there, and to me it just looked like two teams playing tough, contested footy.

Stumpy,

Coming from a Club rich in premiership history I guess you would agree that winning at all costs is worth the ultimate goal. Stunning high marks and free flowing or a hard fought out messy scrappy match. Whoever is in front at the full time siren still takes the cup.

Now going back to my reference of the CFC's history. If the Swans are not a powerhouse team in Sydney and the AFL after the amount of time you've had to achieve the same results then I guess we'll have to eat humble pie. We've been in Sydney for 23 years. A state and city that has strong a back ground of league and union. Give us a break and rejoice in the fact that we are embracing the game Victorians have loved for much longer. Now more and more juniors are playing than we had 10 years ago. That's something we can be happy and proud about.

Give those of us who were not given a Sherrin for their first birthday a break. Also give us who post on these boards a little credit, do you really think the people you are trying to insult on this board have no idea of the game and it's rules?

I also note that the reports from last nights game were about a scrappy match. Headlines this morning were "Magpies win dour struggle"

I guess we're not the only team to play unentertaining football.. But 4 points and a season still alive is reason to be happy enough.

Funny how this has become catty seeing Stumpy really only said what many people on RWO had already said a thousand times. Not too long ago there were threads on RWO questioning the game plan, questioning the coach etc, but now all of a sudden here on Big Footy, everything seems to be apples.

He didn't stereotype other posters until he had it done to him.

I'm a bit confused by your remarks Johnny Park?
Don't recall Stumpy Pete saying anything about the coaches etc. He was basically saying that Sydney supporters are ignorant and don't understand the game. However if you were born in Victoria you have an innate feeling for the game......... blah! blah! blah!
Peoples of all clubs shout out for frees that aren't there.

You don't recall him saying anything about the coaching? Where did the "ugly" style of football come from? Maybe he gave you too much credit by thinking he didn't have to spell it out word for word. Read his first post properly. He was referring to the game plan etc. He didn't say anything about Sydney supporters in his first post, he simply said what many RWOers had previously said. Things got more personal when he was stereotyped for being a Collingwood supporter and was called stupid and sad. It's really not that hard.

How clever, NOT. How many times do we hear that stereotype nonsense from Melbourne based supporters of other teams. I'm from Adelaide originally and grew up on Aussie Rules. I know the game as well as any Collingwood supporter. Do you actually know any Sydney based Swans supporters? Have you ever been to a game in Sydney? I suspect not.

I suppose you've never said a bad thing about a Collingwood supporter, have you Ruda?

Well going by one of your theories on RWO ...

I was a Collingwood supporter so therefore i can basically say what i like. Nobody else can though. That's right isn't it?
