Hahaha 27 premierships in a second rate league haha keep trolling.

It's 32 premierships pre 1991.

28 of those were won wearing black & white. That's more than twice as many as Collingwood won during the same period.

If you want to argue that Collingwood was more successful than Port, the ball's in your court.

So we're 13 of Collingwood's.

*facepalm*

Why should we count VFL premierships then?

Because it's the same league with a different name. The VFL didn't suddenly end and erase it's history when it changed it's name to the AFL.

But, in the interest of fairness - congrats on having no premierships in this league :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

It's not the same league, just 10 teams from that league now play in the 18 team AFL.

They played in a worse comp with less sides in it meaning that the frequency of your premierships should be higher. But at the en of the day they were a second rate club in a second rate league

It is the same league.

The league was officially renamed the Australian Football League in 1990 to reflect the new national perspective;[3] the VFA later took over the Victorian Football League name in 1996

Sorry to annoy your sensibilities.

But Port did when it joined the AFL?

No, and never said they did. But, all but one of their flags were won in another competition. Collingwood's were all won in this competition.

Pretty much they came in to a league that has been going since 1897 and tried to claim 30 BS flags won in a second rate league

The SANFL wasn't second rate back then.

Lol

Collingwood have won 2 flags in over 50 years.

Who is second rate again?

Actually, we've won 2 flags in 25 years in this supposedly brand new competition we play in. Not the best record but it could be worse, we could have won zero :$

It always was Victorias population was much bigger meaning there was a far greater depth of talent

That must explain why India dominates the Olympics then.

On a serious note - there's no point underselling the SANFL, it was a high standard league.

Flags are irrelevant it is easier to win flags is a worse comp then it is to win them in the best competition in the game. Yeah our record in grand finals leaves a bit to be desired but hats off to teams like Carlton who got over us in the GF. Also if they weren't in a second rate league why did they continually try and join the VFL? Because they accepted that the SANFL was a crap standard

Comparing that to India were half a million people live under the poverty line is ridiculous. Around the time of Federation we had greater population and wealth. Any of the main state leagues are a good standard but one (that now is the national comp) is head and shoulders above the rest

Also Collingwood and the league are not stopping you from wearing the prison bars. You are just not allowed black and white stripes. All this is is an infiriorty complex you are use to being a big fish in a little pond and now you are a small fish in a big pond.

There is no reason you could not wear this jumper every week image.jpg

Except that it burns your eyes

The AFL is now head and shoulders above the rest, no question - before it became a national comp, the VFL, SANFL and WAFL were all of a fairly equal standard. People tend to romanticise the VFL as been miles better since it was the league that became the national competition. That was more due to business expansion decisions than standards IMO.

Why did it become state of origin because all the best players in Perth and Adelide played in Melbourne

Genuinely, posts like this make you look foolish.

So all that has changed is the name?

Same teams? Same rules? Same % chance of being Premier?

Yes.

None of the bolded point to it been a different league. Leagues expand/shrink, and rule changes happen all the time. Do F1 titles from the 60's no longer apply because technology has advanced? Does Bill Russell's NBA titles no longer count since goal tending is a rule now?

We will have to wait and see on that front it took the Saints 70 years to break through and win their first in the VFL so if you win one within 45 years then your chance of winning has improved
