The rumour file....

Croad is on his way to Carlton - apparently:confused: ...

Question is, apart from their priority draft pick (pick 3 isn't it?), what could Carlton give Freo in return??

Would they be prepared to swap #3 pick for an underperforming Croad? I think not.

Who then, considering they've got stuff-all decent draft picks to trade (apart from that delicious #3), could they possibly be offering?

Aaaaaaahhhhhhh... the rumour file is cranking up:cool:.

P.S It wasn't me who started this rumour...

Yeah I read that rumour on Dockerland today, which has been deleted off the board, funny that.
I agree with you, ImperialPurple, what do Carlton have to offer us apart from pick 3?? The only player I'd be interested in is Jarred Waite, but would the Blues want to let him go?? Think not.

I hadn't heard that rumour, but it makes some sense that Carlton would be interested in Trent, given that they have his little brother on their rookie list. Take Trent back to his home state and let him play along side his brother and see what you can get out of him.

In terms of doing a deal with Carlton, maybe the question we should ask is: What can we offer Carlton to persuade them to give us that number 3 pick?

I don't usually take much notice of rumours unless they have a reliable source, but I can't see Carlton giving up their number three pick that easily.

Agree with PeteV, the only player on their list that we'd be interested in would be Waite, but the Blues would never let him go.

Looks like it will have to be a three way deal involving another club, if it was to go ahead.

How about Campo, I know he's getting on a bit, but with such a young squad, it would help to have some more experience in the Midfield. He seems to be pretty decent in terms of clearances. Also we have to remember that if Croad is going to be traded, the club he goes to will have to be able to carry over the large salary he is currently on.

Campo = no thanks.

I'd much rather keep Croad. He's 23... Campo is 28.

Fair enough, but I think sometimes clubs neglect the effect older blokes may have on the younger players coming through. I can even see alot of how Fletch played in Hase these days.

What about Croad + pick 12 for pick 3?

As long as Carlton take over the contract in full, solving a heap of salary cap problems for us, i'd probably take it.
Carlton can't trade into the first and second rounds.

What about Fevola? He seems to have straightened himself up with regards to his off-field behaviour.
Is strong, can lead, a good mark and can kick goals. What would you think? (Not necessarily agreeing with this, just throwing up an idea).
Would Carlton give him up? Probably not.
Lance....??

Latest addition to the rumour file (although I believe it's likely to be more than just a rumour...:( )

T-Lo wants out. Not happy with his game time and is looking for a new home where he can get more games at the top level instead of being a WAFL shining light, and a "fill-in".
Don't blame him, really.
Breaks my heart to see him go, but I would wish him all the best.

Questions:

Where will he go?
What will we get for him?

Apparently it might be Kouta... hope the Bloooze continue to pay his whopping salary if it's true.

can't see CC going for someone of his age, though...

Would rather pick 2 (not 3 as it turns out)

Would think that Croad would almost definitely be on the move, T-Lo most likely also ...

:(

Toia has retired, AJ's been told he's no longer required. You would think most other guys places would be "safe" wouldn't you?
Cunningham? Would think his time's up.

Thoughts anyone?

How would you feel about trading Croad to Hawthorn for Brett Johnson and a second round pick?

Johnson is an inside midfielder recruited from Swan Districts and could add a lot to our midfield structure. Hawthorn's second round pick (pick 25) could enable us to draft Moody with our first rounder, Surjan with pick 25 and possibly Spencer or an interstate kid with pick 27 (our 'natural' second round pick).

It's also interesting to note that in the 2001 national draft, Steven Armstrong was selected with pick 25 and in 2000, Mark Coughlan was selected.

If we can't lure Armstrong to Freo (and it looks unlikely that we will be able to considering Melbourne rate him so highly), I think we should seriously consider the above trade.

Your thoughts?

No. I'd rather keep trent than trade for that. Although have a feeling someone will be stupid enough to offer us more than that.
