John Ralph mentioned Black to Freo this morning on SEN. I would want to play for Freo if I were him. Injuries later in the year could see him get some more games, otherwise he's waiting a couple of years for a regular gig.

Contracted for 2 more years, would have to demand a trade for us to have a chance of getting a fair trade.

Very difficult to get a contracted player out of a club with out paying overs, and having said that he hasn't shown anything in the last 2 years to suggest he would be an upgrade on the players we already have in our forward line.

The media is throwing around the claim that to get Black out of North Melbourne, a first round draft pick will be around the price.

How can a player who is languishing in the VFL be worth even a late first round pick ?.

If that is what North demand, Bondy should just laugh and then walk away. Black had the chance at his last contract expiry to walk, his value has dropped since then.

If you start talking about Hogan & McCarthy, my thought process is totally different.

North have the upper hand here, regardless of his 'want' to be traded. 2 years left of his contract. Unless they want him off their books, they will be able to demand overs for him.

On the free market, based on results to date, at most a late 2nd, early 3rd pick. Because of his contract position, will likely need someone of the ilk or Croz or Sheridan + swap second rounders.

The thing is we could easily cover for Sheridan if he left. Weller or Blakely could slot right in. We are short of talls, it isn't just a question of who is a better player.

Something like Sheridan + Pick 36 to North for Black + Pick 30 would be a win/win for both teams.

Even if Taberner and Apeness both turn out to be good AFL players we will still have zero backup key forwards once Pavlich retires. We need another Key Forward at the end of the season no matter what.

If we offer up Sheridan ( which I doubt ) we would be looking at someone like Carlisle whom I really rate and who does not seem to be a happy little vegemite at Essendon.

Be serious, there's no way a player like Sheridan is worth anywhere near someone like Carlisle. Sheridan is a borderline 22 player and as such is worth no more than a round 2 pick. Carlisle would draw $700,000+ per year as a Free Agent and would require a round 1 pick and probably more in trade.

My own personal rating system, I rate him highly*. I think Clancee Pearce is a deadset gun too whereas most just see a solid role player with bad tatts.

*May or may not be because I recently found out he supported Freo growing up

I think North Melbourne are spreading this rumour because they are committed to a player that has gone downhill heavily since a signing on potential. They need to offload him before he chews a hole in their salary cap.
