ABOUT
Highly skilled midfielder who was Carlton's leading possession-winner in 2002. Can sometimes lose focus but after a year away from the club in 2001, he returned to finish eighth in the best and fairest and was the Blues' leading votegetter in the Brownlow Medal. Played one of his best games of the season when asked to take Nathan Buckley on head to head, and needs to show that discipline more often.

PLAYER HONORS
3rd Geelong best and fairest 2001; Carlton pre-season premiership side 1997.

PLAYER STATS
Brownlow Medal: 2002 votes 8; career votes 15.
Previous AFL clubs: Richmond (1994-95: 12 games, 9 goals); Carlton (1996-2000: 79 games, 76 goals); Geelong (2001: 18 games, 9 goals).

Saw his debut. Tore Wanganeen a new one. Interestingly Wanganeen was moved forward and kicked almost goal of the year.

Do remember that game ... out at Princess Park. From memory, that goal didn't even make Goal of the Week!!

A joke that was. One of the most freaky goals i've ever seen (ball kicked in mid-air from the boundary line).

A De La boy..never knew that.

Loving this more and more by the minute.

what year you finish de la mate?

I think he just played for the old cols and wasnt an actual school boy

im still doubting this move as he is the softest player imaginable but he could be good as ********s look good in good sides

Unless he wins:

a) The Brownlow
b) The B&F
c) The Grand Final with an after the siren kick, or
d) More of the ball than he did at Carlton,

I will still hate him. I hated him at Carlton, I hated him at Geelong, and I hated him again at Carlton.

I hope I'm made to eat my words at the end of 2004.

Theres only one way of redemption.

Tackling a rampant Lance Whitnall to the ground, as he is streaming forward in the dying seconds of the game of the 2004 preliminary final, as Essendon lead by a point with Kouta open in the goal square. Holding the ball is awarded, and Murphy winds down the clock, the siren hits, and he hold the ball up in the air, jumping around for joy, not before copping a right jab from McKay, and laying there...concussed as Angwin, the opportunist, steals his boots and sells them on e-bay.
