Dyson Budarick is his brother who played in our academy. Plays for Southport now I think.

Yep, Connor goes to Helensvale SHS and by all reports is better than his brother.. Dyson was not far off it but Connor has very good skills.. Played league footy with Barry Hall last year as a 16 year old and played well..

Anyone know about this Matthew Smith kid that's draft eligible in our academy this year? Had a good game on the weekend apparently. He's listed as 185cm and 101kg. Must be a monster.

Fitzroy Greenwool with 3 goals , gotta love the name.
I have a growing wishlist of Academy players. Reckon Scott, Graham, Koenen and Greenwool will have their names called? Who else? Who goes to make way for them, remembering that there is an extra Category B place the Suns aren't using at the moment, so only 5 players have to go for 6 to be recruited.

Let's see how they go in the real stuff for the Allies before draft 5 academy kids

Agree - There is a whole new level for these guys yet. First they have to get selected in the Allies team for the National Champs and then they have be in that teams better players. Not sure all those named will make Allies given it is a team made up of all Academies , Tasmania and NT.

Last year 10 Suns players made the Allies squad and 2 were drafted - Brayden Crossley,
Jacob Dawson - plus 2 more were drafted - Conner Nutting and Jacob Heron. Of the rest,
Brodie Foster, Harry Simmington, Sam Davidson, Damien Burke, Timakoi Bowie, and Kwaby Boakye, were overlooked for first time draft selection. Giants had 12, Swans had 9 and Lions had only 4 out of 47.

Bailey Scott and Caleb Graham will be going to their second National Championships and Dirk Koenen, who missed 2017 Draft eligibility by 1 day, has been in the best every game. Other guys like Matthew Smith, Lachlan McDonald, Cooper Portelli, Cory Beaman, Rainsford Stone and Josh Gore have been mentioned among our best prospects.

Also not sure what to make of Riley Buckland, Riley Dreghorn, Josh Molloy, Damien Burke, and Jarrod Mills running around in the NEAFL - are they the best performers or just being blooded before being cut from the list?

So there are 4 academies + NT + a stronger Tassie this year

If the squad is say 30 players then on average that's 5 players per academy/state (wouldn't be surprised if Tassie gets 7-8 kids picked to make up for the last few years when they have been under-represented based on merit)

Based on the talk Scott, Graham and Koenen appear walk up starts and don't know much about the chances of the rest...

Couple of the players r bottom age Buckland , Gore, Molloy

That explains some head scratching NEAFL selections. Out of 15 eligible Suns Academy players last year, 12 were overlooked in the Draft and they'll all be back for another crack, although it is a rough path that few succeed at (Josh Jaska is one, which could be seen as the Suns trying to get a headstart on a recruit overlooked for 2 drafts). There are some 19 yo guys having a crack in the NEAFL who could be a chance with a good stretch of NEAFL games ahead, such as Riley Dreghorn, basketball convert ruckman with a nice leap and enthusiasm for winning the tap.

I think it's worth keeping an eye on the new U18 colts competition in South East Queensland to have an idea of who is coming through for us in our academy. They've played two rounds so far and here are the bests for all the teams in our academy zone.

Nice work! Did some digging around and Jordan Bowes was playing for the Demons Reserves team yesterday, which is a step up for the kid. He also played 6 Colts games last year as a bottom ager.

Need to take into account that the lower a team falls on the Div 2 Ladder the less representatives they are likely to have in the Allies team.
Suns have already lost 2 games... the win against GWS was sorely needed.
Against GWS Koenen again starred in defence. But I note that Graham kicked 2 goals as a forward after having previously played in defence.
Both these guys are a similar height and I've seen them both play Senior football in the QAFL for PBC Lions.
Both are draftable - but Graham is by far the more versatile .

The Swans academy has officially won the race for Nick Blakey over North and Brisbane's father-son access. I wonder if Bailey Scott will make a similar announcement in the near future?

Was a no brainer for Nick Blackey I wonder how long Bailey Scott will take to make a decision

Most definitely in the monster category Not quite a machine though ;)

Obviously a big frame
Definitely could lose 10kg though!
I blame Uber Eats, Kebab 88 delivered is a dangerous prospect, Much like 5 Dogs in the valley.
