But in that scenario, trades aside, do we still lose Keays to any club willing to take him at 19 or below?
OK, but if our only pick below 20 was pick 1, and we weren't prepared to use that on Keays, doesn't he go elsewhere?
No, there is no capacity for a team to prevent us getting Keays. The choice to take or pass would be purely our's.
1. A club will nominate Keays with their pick, same as previously (only difference is that it is now potentially on draft day and post-trades). That pick will be considered to be worth X points according to a published table.
2. A yet to be determined discount will be applied to get a new "value" that we need to match.
3. We will then need to forfeit or downgrade later picks equivalent to the discounted total, potentially including the following year's first round pick.
If we have picks 1, 20, 38, etc, and someone bids pick 5 (or 12, or 19) we can use some combination of 20, 38, etc to match that bid.
