Interesting. Well then you would think they'd only bid on him if their pick is around his estimated worth. The lower Brisbane finish on the ladder, the more likely it is that they'll get him with their second pick. I've got a feeling that the 6 games the Scorpions will play in the TAC Cup this year will generate a fair bit of interest in Dawson down south.

Yeah they are really pumped about being able to play a lot more in the TAC cup this season, more exposure to recruiters as well more opportunity to play against the best guys in the country.

I'm certainly looking forward to that. Will have to follow the Queensland boys this year more than I usually would. I'll get the opportunity to go to 8 or so of their games.

I bet. Should raise the overall standard of the Scorpions and result in more Queenslanders getting drafted into the league. Should help the local league too.
 
Will this be the thread to follow Lions Academy players in Qld TAC cup team, or is it worth having say a "TAC Cup watch (Lions players)" thread?

Any news on academy players is welcomed here, TAC Cup or regardless. :)
 
Also interesting to note that only three underagers ('97) are named, being Corey Wagner, Ben Keays and Liam Moseley.

Wagner maybe but keayes and mosely negative. They always have bottom agers in the respective teams for development. They are the best of the year below obviously but compared to this years crop no where near.

Moseley was BOG in the club grand final last year (you seem to rate under 16 club level quite highly) so on that basis I dont understand what your knock is on him, and Keays, if you've been watching any of the academy games or QLD trials has been playing some really good footy, especially on the inside which I do agree was definitely his weakness over the past couple of seasons, I just don't think you should be writing anyone off yet

Eh time will tell, I usually either rate someone real highly or not at all. I have played or trained with the majority of these guys at some stage remember so I know a lot more about their application to training, ethic, attitude etc. Why I rate someone like Hammelman and Dawson so highly. Granted the best footballer I have ever played with is not in the academy or QLD team due to the piss weak application around the 16s. still plays better than everyone drunk or high but his piss weak attitude means he won't ever make it into the AFL. So I am judging them not just on their performances.

Yeah yeah i get ya, i've got close ties to some of these blokes aswell so i've seen quite a bit of them recently. I reckon they'll come good.

And I think I know who your talking about, I've played with him a couple of times, can definitely agree with you on that one

No-one can accuse you of sugar-coating anything Billy. I have no idea whether your ratings of players is accurate or not, but your insight is appreciated anyway and always entertaining.

If the Lions listed two academy players this year, whether Dawson, Hammelman or someone else, plus maybe a rookie or two, it would be a massive boost for the academy and junior players in Qld generally.

I am hoping we get some good talent through the academy. We desperately need a stronger 18s competition in QLD though. Although I would be more than glad if the QLD side actually joined the TAC cup comp and played week in week out there. In my opinion its the best place for juniors to develop.

Yesterday in a game where the Lions ressies were dominated, Liam Dawson did a few good things. Got a good utility build too.

Hammo ( :eek: just realised why we can't draft him) got cold in the forward line unfortunately. Ball barely got fwd of centre.

Disclaimer: I left mid-way thru the 3rd quarter, shortly after the Lions kicked their 1st goal of the game.
