16 year old Ryan Gilder has now played 3 senior QAFL games and genuinely thrived in each of them.

Here is a funny video from his game on the weekend where he kicked his first senior goal to get the boys within a few points and then completed one of the better run down efforts you're likely to see. (More impressive given his team were down to 18 fit players and he hasn't had a rotation in more than a half of footy while playing wing!)

What was the umpire watching - no free?

Comical how pathetic umpiring is when that amazing run down and the player with the ball had what, 20 seconds to dispose of it, is tackled and its just play on. I mean, how on earth wasnt the tackler awarded a free?

Didn't look like he was being tackled when he tried to kick it. Just panicked and didn't kick it properly

He is a key position player isn't he Thommo?

Long term key forward or back at AFL level most likely?

Thommo 42 when does he turn 17? I have Gilder on my list for next years draft.

Edit: went and checked the Talent League app.

Happy Birthday Ryan.

To be honest, I don't know.

He is taller than the 191cm the Talent League app credits him. I'm 190cm and he's much taller than me.

He probably has a bit more growing in him, but is so athletic he could just about play anywhere.

He's missed a few academy games with illness but at Senior QAFL level he's been playing wing to ease him into senior footy given his age.

Even with our best 22 available he's in our side, but we've got so many injuries (circa 8-10 first picked out) he will stay playing a more prominent role as the year goes on and will likely get some assignments down back to test him.

He has all the weapons of a tall midfielder, just kicking possibly not there to be an AFL midfielder, though it's by no means bad, but obviously needs to be elite to play on ball at AFL level.

There's Brownlow medalist midfielders who can't kick to save themselves. If Gilder's kicking is passable and everything else is a wepon, welcome to Brisbane Lions young man.

They played a relatively even game vs the Suns on the weekend that was live streamed. Will be interesting to see how they go, as they have certainly loaded up on over age players. I watched about 1.5 quarters on the live stream, Annable was a class above. Jie Murray for the Suns you would expect to stand out, but he didn't really show much - but he is seriously elite.

Even though it was a pretty close game, there was a sense of inevitability about the result, like the Suns were just playing with them and scored when they needed to.

Ben Lillico certainly one to watch for the Lions, a nice little left footer who is very good in traffic. Then a bottom ager in Matthew Owens knows where to get to, despite being pretty undersized - quick and clean hands. Assume Lillico is a relation to the great Panther legend - Tangles.

Gees I love the communication from the club about streaming games, etc.

Is there genuinely somewhere to get information, or is it just who you know?

The Suns team sheet has player heights, club, etc. Where I noticed one of their players plays club footy for Wilston Grange. How is a kid who plays club footy on the north side in the Suns academy? (Another plays for Redlands, but I can understand how he might be in the Suns zone)

Burrows is from Springwood originally, he then changed clubs when their age group folded. The Suns academy zone starts midway down the M1, so pretty easy to fall in their zone while playing club footy or living in Brisbane.

the one at Grange is unusual though, what is his name?

I can probably hunt down the DOB, height and weight of the Lions kids - but yeah, the comms not great for fans trying to keep an eye on it

Springwood is in our zone.
It is only once you get to the Logan area that it becomes the GC zone

Grady Turner.

Grady Turner.

From North Queensland, is a board at Nudgee College on a cricket scholarship.

Thats an interesting one though, as there is a land called Will Munro from Cairns playing for the Lions - so not sure how the zones quite work, as I think Munro is down here as a boarder somewhere.
