It helps Eddie presonally and Collingwood and Eddie in a football sense to have good relations with the AFL, the commission and CEO as well as with Essendon and Paul Little himself who is not an insignificant professional contact. If nothing else the whole proces helps secure the ANZAC day clash but that's possibly the least important aspect given the other potential aspects mentioned. Then there is also the prospect that Eddie just feels it's right for the competition and the code (no idea if that's the case).

My point really is that we already have good relations with the AFL. There is no need for us to provide any help to Essendon. As for ANZAC day game I would be happy for them to remove Essendon. I cannot put this strongly enough, I totally despise that club for the manner in which they conducted themselves last season. Let them rot.

Fiar enough but whatever the view of essendon, there is milage for Collingwood and Eddie personally in helping Little, Essendon and the AFL. Whether you want Eddie to pursue this is another matter again. Personally I am not fussed either way.

Cannot believe the poll is 60% in favour of Ed doing this despicable thing.
Did none of you live through the Shaw years when we were broke and went to the AFL for help only to be refused.
Where were Essendon and it's hierarchy then?
Certainly not supporting our plea.
Yes, it's been a long time, but not one club has ever, ever supported the Pies when we needed it. So why should we give any of them a leg up.
For those in the 60%, gave a long hard look in the mirror. Then go and follow Carlton.

Unfortunately I can.

People seem to forget the reason we got out of the hole we were in when Ed came on board was us not so much his business contacts but the Collingwood supporters he was able to rally and gee up to buy memberships attend games and then sell our numbers to business's interested in sponsoring us.

15 years for 1 flag maybe it's time to put some pressure on but it doesn't seem that Collingwood supporters actually care about flags anymore.

Half a century of excuses and justification has dulled our ambitions to the point where we define success aas what we achieve. We are the least demanding "successful" club in the comp and maybe the world. How long will man U's current "failure" go unchecked?

None of that has anytyhing to do with Eddie and Essendon though. Our issues are intrnal as they have been for half a century.

People don't realise this but while everyone outside Collingwood trolls Ed, all the other presidents of every other Club love him.

He basically helps them ALL out in one way or another. When the finals thing with Freo blew up last year, the Freo president was on the phone to Ed to help sort it out. Bulldogs, Bombers, North. Ed's basically helped them all.

He's basically the Ray Donovan of Football Presidents.

Eddie is a much better person than me, there is no way in hell i would help Essendon. You're right no one helped us when we were down, so why the f should we care.
As long as James Hird still has a job at that club i couldnt care less what happens to them.

I think it's helpful to look at something sometimes in its constituent parts. In a non-football related context, Kissinger advocated the policy of 'detente', i.e. establishing closer relationships with China and Russia in order to extract advantages for America. In essence it was exploiting strands within an entity. Kissinger created fissures within the Sino-Soviet sphere and within the Soviet Union. He distinguished between the nationalist elements within Russia, internationalists, realists, ideologues etc.

So in the case of Essendon, you would say Hanke is an ideologue, Little something of a realist - owing to their special roles and relations. It's better that Eddie relates to Little to isolate Hanke within Essendon from Little's perspective and from our perspective on the departmental spending cap issue which looms as a serious question, Eddie no doubt wants a fairly broad front amongst the wealthy clubs like Hawthorn, us and Essendon for example.

Whatever happened in the past regarding us going cap in hand, well let sleeping dog's lie. I don't have a problem with establishing good will amongst opponents where temporary alliances may assist us on questions from finances, fixturing, interchange caps et al.

Que? I tend to think that there are more parallels with the Rolling Stones dumping Bill Wyman.... or more startlingly, there are astonishing similarities between the relationship between Ed and other clubs and the way Big Brother progressed in the first season...or was it the third?...

Who is Little, who is Hanke and who is Ed in the Rolling Stones? Hopefully Hanke is Brian Jones.

Really???

Nah, I would have said the opposite.

2010 gave us a taste for what it's like to win one and we've expected a flag every year since.
