Accomodation in Melbourne

Going to Melbourne on april 1st need accomodation that night and the 2nd of April, taking the mrs and looking to stay in city for about 110 bucks or less. Looking for a good hotel that is still cheap. I know i am being a bit stingy but got a wedding out of Melbourne and have spent up big on accomodation out there etc. Will be attending the Melbourne VS Richmond game at the MCG. First time attending a mcg game consisting of two victorian teams. Anyone got any ideas of hotels i could stay at.

I went to Sydney recently and stayed at a suburban Best Western which cost just under $100 a night.

While on the way out of Melbourne, I saw signs for a chain called Formule or Formule1 or something, advertising for rooms real cheap ($49-69 per night)

If this chain exists near where you live, I'd suggest you drive past to get an idea of what you might get, or even pick up a brochure.

Best Western/Travelodge etc. are a good bet, although in the city centre might cost a bit more. If you can get one in an inner suburb, not too far away from the action, I'd be surprised if you'd have to pay more than the $110 in your budget.

How well do you know Melbourne's suburban layout?

the ibis in victoria st is pretty cheap i think.
the F1 is $59 a nite, its at the airport or tullamarine.

There are more than just that one, and different prices as well judging by the sign. Drove past one at Noble Park the other day.

Stayed at one somewhere near Springvale, wasn't disgraceful if you're only after a couple of nights.

tulla one and the airport are 2 diff places. anyway yeh i know there are more then 2, theres one at dande, but i was just thinkin that someone who would probably fly in (im not sure, but the airport would be handy for this, as it has buses to the city or whatever).

and the one at tullamarine would be a 10 min taxi ride from the city, as well as 5 min from the airport.

heard the victoria on collins st is pretty good for a 3 and half star joint and quite cheap. Anyone got feedback on this place.

right in the CBD eh, the ibis is about $130 or something a nite, and its in little bourke st.

When I can't get a free room at my friends place in Glenferrie I stay at the Atlantis in Spencers street, its a short crawl from the Casino at around $100+ a night.

I stayed there about 3 years ago, I found it excellent for the price, but I found cheaper ones (nastier) after that & seeing as I only really wanted somewhere to crash for a couple of nights after the footy, went with them.

If you want something decent, but not too pricey, then I would go with the Victoria.

I work at the Astoria (next door to Atlantis) and we do rooms from $98 per night, in Spencer st near the corner of La Trobe. We're 3.5 stars, kinda like a country motel in the CBD. And we still have rooms avail for the 1st.

Best bet is to try Hotels.com or wotif.com, you can get rooms here for about $75 per night. Cheaper than what we can offer ourselves. So try the net.
